Event Details

Regarded by many of our guests as ‘the adventure of a lifetime,’ this 14 day odyssey of shamanic learning, intercultural exploration, immersion in the ancient traditions of both Inca and Shipibo cultures, plus the work with life changing plant medicines Huachuma (San Pedro Cactus) and Ayahuasca can only be found with Pulse Tours. No other company offers the diversity and depth of specialized knowledge our team passionately provides.

At our core we’re specialists in adventure travel in South America which allows us to develop and lead exciting and action-packed travel pro-grams while providing safe and authentic opportunities for you to experience ancient shamanic medicines that can show you inter dimensional realities, profound insights about the universe and lasting personal healing.

This journey runs from Cusco to Iquitos, and vice versa. In essence it’s the 7 Day Amazon Ayahuasca Adventure stacked with an additional five days traveling the Andes around Cusco and Machu Picchu, which include professionally guided trips to Machu Picchu and the Mandor Botanical Garden and Waterfall, plus an extra two days in Iquitos.

Beginning in Cusco, you’ll arrive and meet a group of co-travelers who often come from several different countries around the world. We’ve had guests from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, England, Germany, Switzerland, France, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Russia, Guyana, Lebanon, India, United States, Canada, Mexico and counting.

One often overlooked benefit of travel – particularly in this type of small group adventure travel – is that you can make deep and lasting connections with new friends, male and female, from all over the globe. Some people even find romance during their trips with us.

The day after your arrival day and welcome meeting in Cusco, you’ll skip breakfast and head up to the serene and scenic Mountain House, owned and operated by highly reputable Q’ero trained San Pedro shaman, Lesley Myburgh and her sons. There you will learn about the ancient Andean shamanic plant medicine, San Pedro (also known as Huachuma).

San Pedro is a gentle and loving medicine that you drink during the day, which lifts the rational veil of human perception so you can see the world for the energetic and spiritual flux that it actually is. Offering introspective healing and a heightened level of awareness, San Pedro is the perfect transition into or out of the world of Ayahuasca shamanism, which can be more intense and potentially difficult.

During your San Pedro healing ceremony, you’ll be offered a succulent fruit salad which will not only tantalize your senses but make you appreciate the life-giving gifts that nature offers us. After you finish your juicy fruit salad, you’ll be invited to go walking outside the Mountain House on a guided tour of the nearby Templo de la Luna (Moon Temple) and other ancient, sacred sites, such as the San Pedro Temple, the Water Temple and others.

The Moon Temple is an ancient Andean spiritual site, which can be felt on an energetic level, with musty caverns and an alter carved into the rocky formation. There are two sides to the ruins, both of which can be explored and often generate profound feelings of awe and connection to the earth within our guests.

Combined with the magical medicine, San Pedro, many people claim to have life changing realizations and experiences during their visit to the Moon Temple. Inside, there is a secret stone which can be lifted to expose a narrow tunnel that goes deep into the Earth. If you try putting your arm inside the tunnel, you can feel the Earth breathing. In fact, many visitors claim that these sacred sites are even more powerful and energetically char-ged than Machu Picchu! We’re lucky that these sites are still accessible. The rumour going is that soon they will be restricted to the public.

You’ll return before sunset to the Mountain House, if not only to avoid the cold night air of the harsh Andes highlands climate. In the evening, you’ll be offered a hot and savoury quinoa or pumpkin soup with bread and butter to comfort your senses and fill your tummy.

Most ceremonies conclude with fireside stories around the outdoor fire pit with hot tea or snuggled up in blankets listening to soft music inside the cottage. The beds are layered with thick blankets and each room is equipped with space heaters so you can keep your body warm at night. Your overnight stay at the Mountain House is included.

The next day you’ll be offered a hot breakfast with cinnamon oatmeal, scrambled eggs, coffee and tea. Shortly thereafter, you’re transport will be ready to escort you to the Poroy train station, where you’ll begin a three-hour train ride through the mountains on your way to Aguas Calientes (also known as Machu Picchu village).

Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, your local English-speaking guide will meet you and you’ll be offered a scenic and fresh walk amidst the highlands cloud forest to the Mandor Botanical Garden and the Mandor Waterfall. This is always a good warm up for the Machu Picchu trek the following day. You can expect this guided hike to be about three or four hours of mild to moderate physical activity.

Your guide will be sharing his knowledge of the area and secrets of the Inca culture while walking. Later that evening, you have admission to the hot springs in Aguas Calientes, a nice location at the heights of the town where you can soak in mineral-rich natural volcanic water which helps to soothe your muscles after the Mandor hike.

Early the next morning, breakfast will be served at 5:00am so you can absorb some energy for the sunrise Machu Picchu trek. It’s often very busy, even this early in the morning, so it’s important that everyone wakes up on time and is ready to go. Have a quick breakfast and walk to the bus stop for your ride up to Machu Picchu! If we’re lucky, the sky will be clear and we’ll get there in time to watch the sunrise creep overtop the jagged mountain peaks surround the ancient Inca city of Machu Picchu.

Depending on the weather and group´s mood, the trek might be rescheduled until later in the day, in order for everyone to get a better rest the night before. Remember, the itinerary is very dynamic and “action-packed,” so you may choose to take it easier today and sleep in.

During this trek your guide will share his in depth knowledge of the ancient Inca civilization, Machu Picchu and Peru’s history. Many people find his knowledge to be of significant effect on the Machu Picchu experience. The slow walk around the ruins can be tiring in itself, but you have the option of trekking up to the Sun Gate, the Inca Bridge or the (other) Moon Temple if you want some extra physical activity. It’s an adventurous and scenic journey while quite physically demanding.

Later that evening, you will have a second chance to visit the hot springs and soak your aching muscles in the soothing spring water. Also, Aguas Calientes is rife with inexpensive massage parlours and spas which can offer a pleasant and relaxing recovery after hiking the steep rocky slopes of the Andes.

The following day, you will have the morning and most of the afternoon to explore the city of Aguas Calientes on your own. You can enjoy another spa treatment, visit the local market and shops that sell beautiful souvenirs, crystals, paintings, etc. Indulge at one of the numerous restaurants and/or simply relax and enjoy the fresh air and peaceful atmosphere of this city. Your Machu Picchu ticket is valid for two days, so if you wish to visit the sacred sight again, you could!

In the late afternoon, you will take a return trip on the mountain train back to Cusco, where you can enjoy a free evening to further explore this historic capital of the Incas. No scheduled activities are offered, but your passionate and professional trip leader will locate great dining and the hottest nightlife options for your last evening in the mountains.

The next day, you will fly from Cusco to Iquitos to begin the Amazon Ayahuasca Adventure. Or, fly back to your home if you started your 14 day retreat in Iquitos.

(Please note that there are two routes for this 14 day retreat, one which starts in Iquitos and finishes in Cusco and vice versa. Whichever way you start the retreat, it is fundamentally the same.)

The Amazon Ayahuasca Adventure portion of this 14 day journey is hands down the best way to experience an authentic Ayahuasca retreat with real, professional and highly skilled Shipibo shamans.

The recipe for your experience not only includes the most potent ayahuasca medicine and powerful female and male Shipibo shamans, but it also includes two things that no other center offers -

1) Professionally guided jungle expeditions in a primary jungle paradise rife with animals, big trees, and mysterious river tributaries that provide mind blowing scenery and awe inspiring encounters with nature.

And

2) An 88 sq. meter fitness facility that allows you to stay strong and fit during your ayahuasca healing retreat

Our guests claim the integration of ‘jungle therapy’ positively influences their ayahuasca healing experiences. The flora and fauna you’ll experience during your excursions into the jungle can become part of your ayahuasca visions and help you to connect more deeply with nature and the flow of life in the universe(s).

During these two weeks of life changing ayahuasca ceremonies, exciting jungle excursions, physical activity and fun social bonding, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in eight ayahuasca healing ceremonies and up to 14 professionally guided jungle excursions in the surrounding Amazon rainforest and abundant river systems.

Expect to do activities like:

    • Alligator hunting (catch and release)
    • Daytime jungle trekking
    • Nighttime jungle trekking
    • Tracking and spotting animals (sloths, boas, anacondas, alligators, frogs, tarantulas, scorpions, iguanas, hawks and other birds, cool insects, monkeys, jungle cats, capybaras)
    • Spotting freshwater ‘pink’ dolphins (and swimming if you dare!)
    • Learning about wild medicinal plants from the jungle
    • Fishing for piranhas and catfish (keep what you catch!)
    • Boating under the stars

And more …

As preparation for your ayahuasca ceremony experience, you’ll be offered flower baths prior which help to cleanse your energetic fields and protect you during the subsequent ayahuasca ceremony.

Also, before each ayahuasca ceremony, we’ll discuss your intentions and elicit exactly what you want to get out of your spiritual healing experience. Our Shipibo shamans will actually integrate your intentions into the personalized icaros (healing chants) that they sing directly to you during ceremony.

All this is done in the native Shipibo dialect, which makes for a super profound audible experience while you’re inside the maloca undergoing an intense ayahuasca journey. It’s like nothing else available on planet Earth.

After each ceremony, you’ll be invited to share your experiences with both the shamans and the facilitators inside the maloca, a process that helps you make sense of something that may seem transdimensional, otherworldly or supernatural, as well as to deepen your healing process and learn from the experiences of other participants in your group.

Post-ceremony conversations are usually held in a group setting but private consultations with shamans and facilitators are possible for more sensitive healing or issues that you don’t particularly want to share with the group.

There is also at least one bilingual Western female facilitator and at least one local female shaman on staff, so both male and female guests can easily find an understanding female ear for more sensitive conversations.

And we have an 88 square meter “Jungle Gym” on site to ensure you can keep your body strong and fit during your stay with us. Our Jungle Gym features top of the line gear from Moving Zen and the hot new total human optimization company founded by the legendary Aubrey Marcus, Onnit.

We believe that your healing process should include physical fitness and elite nutrition, too. It’s all part of being a powerful Warrior of Light.
