Monday, October 27, 2014, 8pm
Centre culturel franco-manitobain

Winnipeg Art Gallery
300 Memorial Ave.

Curator: Michael Matthews

Timber Timbre dives into the vibrant world of the woodwind quintet. Winnipeg's top players perform a program of compelling new music for winds, including György Ligeti’s Six Bagatelles and György Kurtág’s Fúvósötös, op. 3, as well as Whirls World, an influential work by Danish composer Per Nørgård. Set in the magnificent and reverberant atrium of the WAG, this concert will highlight the magic and colour of the modern woodwind quintet.

EVE EGOYAN: Two Unique Piano Concerts
We present concert pianist Eve Egoyan, one of Canada's most revered musicians, for the first time in Winnipeg, performing a pair of distinct concerts:

Folklore
Thursday, February 26, 2015, 8pm
Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall
University of Winnipeg, 515 Portage Ave.

A showcase of Eve’s astonishing range in four contrasting works by James Tenney, Per Nørgård, Linda Smith and Michael Finnissy. Throughout, Eve investigates the notion of musical layers from every angle – weaving voices in waves of shifting density, singing lines through rich harmonies, stacking simultaneous musical gestures.

****

Simple Lines of Enquiry
Friday, February 27, 2015, 8pm
Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall
University of Winnipeg, 515 Portage Ave.

An eloquent and quietly emotional convergence of music and images, Eve performs Ann Southam’s transcendental work for solo piano alongside David Rokeby’s extraordinary video Machine for Taking Time. The stillness and intimacy of Eve’s performance will invite listeners’ into an environment of deep listening and contemplation.

MUSIC FOR A LOST PLANET: New Depths in Low Flutes
Thursday, April 9, 2015, 8pm
Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall
University of Winnipeg, 515 Portage Ave.

Curator: Diana McIntosh

Our 24th concert season ends on a high note with the mysterious soundscape of low flutes. Australia-based flautist Peter Sheridan performs an unusual concert of works from all over the world composed for an array of "low flutes" (from alto flute to the extremely rare subcontrabass flute). Known for his virtuosic command of these instruments, Sheridan will perform both as a soloist and in duet with some of Winnipeg’s finest – including a special premiere for bass flute and piano interior by Diana McIntosh.
