Event Details

A one-day workshop for helpers of male survivors that experienced sexual victimization, supplemented by an evening community “Dare to Dream” event for male survivors and community members.

This one-day workshop will explore issues surrounding the sexual victimization of males through the use of film, clinical case examples, and personal sharing. Presented from both the clinician’s, the client’s and advocate’s perspective, we hope to help attendees better understand the complex, and often misunderstood, dynamics of being a male survivor and some of the unique challenges and pressures faced by this population.

This presentation is intended for anyone that works in a helping role with male survivors or whose clients may have experienced sexual abuse in their past.  This would include psychologists, social workers, child protection workers, law & legal professionals, addiction counselors, health professionals, and Corporate HR specialists.

To increase the understanding of the incidence of male sexual victimization & the emotional sequelae of abuse; To identify the myths that create misunderstanding and blocks to seeking help;  To increase understanding of the role of the psychotherapist in facilitating healing for male survivors of sexual victimization;  To increase effectiveness in providing psychotherapy to male survivors;  To understand a survivors' perspective, what are the most helpful aspects of providing hope, healing and support and therapeutic help to clients; To learn strategies to help prevent future victimization of boys and men.

MaleSurvivor.org will also be facilitating a FREE evening of inquiry, connection and support for male survivors of sexual abuse, their loved ones and helpers of male survivors.

The evening will include clips of Oprah Winfrey's Emmy-winning 2010 show featuring 200 male survivors, as well as a panel discussion with men who are learning, living and thriving as survivors. MaleSurvivor will also give a preview of its Weekends of Recovery, which have served over 850 men in various parts of the world.
