If money wasn't a factor, how would you build your community to address all aspects of your health?

Join Simon Fraser University's Semester in Dialogue on Tuesday, November 20th for our public dialogue "Building Community, Building Health."

Our doors will open at 5:30 pm, we will begin promptly at 5:45 pm. Dinner is free to all participants.

The goal of the day is to refocus health care from treating illness to preventing it by building a healthy community from the ground up. In small working groups, you will have the opportunity to collaborate on one of the three topics below.

1) Building Space to Include: A physical environment designed for inclusion allows individuals of diverse abilities the space to improve their wellness.

This group will discuss the physical spaces within our community. Examples of projects this group may wish to include are social, supported, and low-income housing, parks and low-barrier recreation facilities, and pedestrian and bicycle paths.

2) Building Joint Prosperity: A community of empowered individuals rooted in reciprocal prosperity creates stability, opportunity and better health.

This group will discuss ways to make our built community sustainable and self-sufficient. Examples of projects this group may wish to include are farmer's markets, neighbourhood skills exchanges, and small businesses.

3) Building a Culture of Connection:
Strong networks across culture, age and background are the foundation of resilience and wellbeing.

This group will discuss ways we can facilitate interactions between people of different generations, backgrounds, cultures, and incomes. Examples this group may wish to discuss are seniors' facilities, community centres, home care programs, and cultural fairs.

After you have worked in groups to produce projects that will help our community thrive, we will present them to each other and build our own city.
