Canadian Forces 1969 - 2008 & Senior Advisor and Spokesperson For Team Spartan

Bio;

Retired Lieutenant General Steve Lucas’s most enjoyable career in the Canadian Forces spanned the period from 1969 to 2008 when he retired from the CF after leaving his position as Chief of the Air Staff and Commander of Air Command in late July of 2007. Educated at Royal Roads Military College in Victoria and the Royal Military College in Kingston, he earned a Bachelor of Engineering in 1973 before training as, and becoming, an Air Navigator. His flying career spanned two decades during which he flew some 4000 hours mainly in the soon to be retired CC-130E and H model Hercules with specialities in long range, SAR and Tactical Airlift.

During his career, LGen Lucas also commanded one of Canada’s humanitarian missions in Africa; under the name Op NILE, a detachment of 2 CC-130 aircraft and a team of 60 members of the CF delivered 100,000 tons of food to starving Ethiopians over a three month periods under very challenging conditions.

Since his retirement, Steve has worked as a consultant, facilitator and mentor. In 2013 he began serving as Senior Advisor and Spokesperson for Team Spartan as they prepared and submitted their most comprehensive bid for the historic FWSAR procurement. In addition, he is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the not for profit Vintage Wings of Canada which has as its aim the stimulation of future generations of leaders using Canada's marvellous aviation history as inspiration.

Married with three children and two grandchildren, Deb and Steve make their home in the Ottawa area.
