Keynote Speakers

Shaun Loney, Building Urban Industries for Local Development

Shaun Loney is the Executive Director of  BUILD (see www.warmupwinnipeg.ca ).  He was Manitoba’s Director of  Energy Policy from 2002 to 2008.

Willard Metzger, Mennonite Church of Canada

Willard Metzger believes that Christianity’s sacred scriptures have important things to say about caring for creation. Metzger is Executive Director of the Mennonite Church of Canada and attended the UN’s COP17 Climate Change talks in Durban, South Africa in 2011. He believes that climate change is a moral and ethical issue, and that people of faith must resist the temptation to let their appetites trump their desires to be a faithful church. Metzger has travelled to over 50 countries, served as a pastor for two decades, and has extensive experience speaking to Canadian churches across a wide diversity of Christian expression.

Suggested donations of $20 to the Green Faith Alliance are welcome

Green Faith Alliance (Manitoba)

We represent people of faith who mobilize political will in Canada to advocate against public policies that aggravate climate change and for public policies that strengthen environmental sustainability. We are united in our commitment to love, respect and defend the environment, which includes our concern for the inviolable dignity of all people and the well-being of our shared Earth. We reject the misuse of religions and commit ourselves to engaging our communities for the common good. We are united in our call to take bold action to address the threats that confront humanity from climate change with particular attention to those who are most vulnerable, and we accept our responsibility to mobilize our own religious communities to choose sustainable policies for our common future.
