DemoCamp is an event format that involves a keynote speaker, about 5 software demos which each consist of 5 minutes of actually demoing the software and 5 minutes of Q&A, followed by general socializing with the good company in attendance.

 

DemoCampHamilton2 will feature a keynote presentation by Mic Berman, acting COO at FreshBooks and Founder at Embarkonit, as well as demos by FluidMedia, Dan Zen, Indellient, Open Hamilton and MealDeck.

 

Show up early and stay after! DemoCampHamilton2 will be taking place at the same time as the Apps For Health 2011 conference at Mohawk College. From 5:00pm to 10:00pm there will be live music and drinks at the outdoor Terrace Garden, a short walk from room i109 where DemoCampHamilton2 will take place.

 

You should think about registering for the Apps for Health conference itself - earlier on May 27th there will be web development workshops by Apple Canada as well as several great keynote presentations: http://www.appsforhealth.ca/eventinfo. There is also over $10,000 in prizes available to students who join teams which will take on posted challenges to build health care apps. Registration for the conference is free for students and $50 for professionals.

Demo 1

Who are you?

Cristina Calder is the head of Design and User Experience at Fluid Media, a Hamilton software development company

What are you showing?

Cristina will be demo-ing the Rendering Exchange, a web-based, crowd-sourced platform that connects graphic designers with commercial interior manufacturers, architects and interior designers to provide high-quality, photo-realistic room scene images for use in sales and planning.

What qualifies you?

We've been working in the commercial interiors industry since 2001. We've been creating web-based systems since 1998.

What do you get out of it?

Feedback. Graphic Designers. Ideas for other applications/markets.

What does the audience get out it?

Interesting example of a very specific/vertically focused web-enabled platform that solves a key problem while aligning the interests of all parties involved.

Demo 2

Who are you?

I am Dan Zen, mad Inventor – creator of over 100 Web games, gadgets and communities

What are you showing?

A mobile game for iOS and Android that has an advantage over traditional games in that it creates a physical spectacle!

What qualifies you?

I have been creating unique applications for more than 15 years.

What do you get out of it?

It is always wonderful to meet new people and be able to inspire and help others see what can be done.

What does the audience get out it?

The audience will be given insight into the Mobile Mediated genre.    

Demo 3

Who are you?

Indellient Inc. - customer software and service provider operating out of Mississauga for the last seven years. We provide a number of enterprise customers with services that enable them to share information more effectively with their business and trading partners. We also have our own software offerings in the areas of open source software adoption and new channels / media for workflow enablement.

What are you showing?

Inktronic – a Digital Pen based collaboration tool that simplifies workflow involving graphical content for the architectural, engineering and construction industries

What qualifies you?

Our management team has been a successful independent developer of custom software solutions for the last 20 years. Our resilience has demonstrated our ability to adapt to change technology environments and client needs over that time.

What do you get out of it?

We are hoping to obtain audience feedback on the value proposition and if they feel like so doing providing constructive criticism on our solution design.

What does the audience get out it?

The audience gets to see an interesting solution that is based upon a technology (Digital Pens) that is tremendously interesting to see, but has seen limited adoption due to lack of incorporation into practical business solutions. They will see how we have bridged this gap to provide a practical solution to a common business problem.

Who are you?

Joey Coleman is a professional journalism whose work appears on the Globe and Mail website. Prior to joining the Globe, Joey was a reporter/blogger for Maclean's Magazine and a contributing editor to the Maclean's University Guide. The creator of the #HamOnt hashtag, he's one of the founding member of Open Hamilton which lobbies for and facilitates the use of Open Data in Hamilton.

What are you showing?

Open Data products from across Canada and some of the Open Hamilton projects already underway.

What qualifies you?

As a journalist, I commonly work with large data sets and have a responsibility to inform the public not out of my findings but of the raw data behind those findings. As my profession is based upon data and information, I've learnt over the years how to provide information in a manner which interests a wide audience.

What do you get out of it?

The opportunity to expand the number of people aware of open data and the open data movement in Hamilton.

What does the audience get out it?

With the proliferation of data sets provided by both governments, non-profits, and corporations; there is an opportunity for professional development and commercialization of web and mobile apps which leverage this data in a useful actionable way for the general public.  

Demo 5

Who are you?

We are Gavin Schulz and Zaahir Moolla, two computer science undergraduate students at McMaster.

What are you showing?

We are showing our new service MealDeck which allows restaurants to easily create a cross-platform mobile website.

What qualifies you?

We are 2 young students who have developed a useful new service.

What do you get out of it?

We want to demo our service with an eye towards gaining user feedback.

What does the audience get out it?

The satisfaction of knowing someone is working to make restaurant websites a better experience for everyone :)
