Music in the Barns
Music in the Barns, at the Artscape Wychwood Barns, is committed to exploring and creating new avenues for making classical music more accessible and relevant in today's world. Music in the Barns functions as performer, producer and educator, furthering new Canadian composition and traditional classical chamber music through events, concerts, and educational opportunities. Music in the Barns is also known for bringing the concert experience to new social and experiential spheres and for transforming landmark Artscape Wychwood Barns’ 7,500 sq. ft. Mainspace into a visually unique and acoustically superb concert hall. With distinctive features including multi-level staging, visual projections, and in-the-round seating, Music in the Barns is in the spotlight with its strong following of new generation audiences and classical music aficionados.
Resident ensemble, the Music in the Barns Chamber Ensemble's fourteen leading musicians work closely with Canadian composers, boldly showcasing new compositions alongside classical works. Believing strongly in educational outreach, Music in the Barns also creates special opportunities for youth to experience exceptional classical music performances with Canadian composers and up-close and personal interactions with the performers.
Music in the Barns's storefront studio offers classical music education programmes including ongoing classes and private lessons, Classical for Kids concert series with performances by pianist Peter Longworth and renowned violinist and Banff music co-Director Barry Shiffman, and Music in the Barns' International Visiting Artists Professional Development programme including guests David Amram (Pulitzer-prize winning composer and multi-instrumentalist) and Burton Kaplan (Manhattan School of Music Professor and author of Practicing for Artistic Success).
