Learn from Humber College’s best instructors about the onslaught of bits and bytes altering your perceptions and the lives you live in your home and beyond. Experience all four sessions for $50.00!

The four seminars are:

Augmented Reality

Is it real or is it a… Pokemon? Today’s technology allows us to view and interact with computer-generated sensory inputs mediated through our smartphones, tablet computers, and head mounted displays. From games to art gallery shows, reality is modified in real time to suit the viewers’ curiosity and desire making this technology almost limitless in its application and wonderment. Join us in the discussion and understand the possibilities of the enhanced world around you. This session will be led by professionals from Jam3.com Senior Developer Tomasz Dysinski and Creative Developer Matt DesLauriers.

Date: Wednesday, Oct. 12, 1 to 3 pm, room B101 - North Campus

Wearable Technology

A good example of The Internet of Things, wearables, aka wearable technology, puts computing and advanced electronics into your socks and onto your blouse. Embedded software and sensors close to your skin allows technology to be seamlessly interweaved into your lives, feeding activity, location, and other data via Bluetooth to our smartphones and the internet beyond. What does the future hold for bespoke technology? Will the slave to fashion become the toiler for technology? These questions and many more will be answered by George Paravantes, Program Coordinator of Multimedia Design and Development.

DATE: Wednesday, Oct. 19, 1 to 3 pm, room D109 - North Campus

The Internet of Things- Part II

Back by popular demand, Tim Wong, our resident expert on the internet of things! Go deeper into the interconnectivity of physical things- from appliances to buildings to buses- and how knowing the network of information will impact our lives. It’s all about automation, feedback, exchange data, monitoring, and the future our health and well-being for good (and maybe bad). Explore and discuss with programmer and technology expert Humber instructor Tim Wong.

DATE: Tuesday, Oct. 25, 1 to 3 pm, room B101, North Campus

Artificial Intelligence

A rational robot? What was once an oxymoron, a thinking and cognitive machine, may become routine and a common place in the near future. Delve into the possibility of non-human systems learning, making decisions, reasoning, and manipulating objects at high speeds and without interference. Complex and fascinating, this session begins with what it is to be conscious and posits a world where the sense of self is not limited to flesh and blood but extends to circuitry and data streams. Presented by Humber instructor Mian Shah, a specialist in Artificial Intelligence.
