Drew Rifkin’s career and passion is focused around data and its ability to empower. During the 90’s tech boom Drew started his career in New York City helping real-estate investors understand data. When he moved to Canada (Vancouver), he obtained a Post–bachelor degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) . With Drew’s technical acumen and communications ability, he has been educating executives and technologists alike on the power of data for over 15 years. Working for MacDonald Dettwiler, he traveled throughout Asia to promote the use of Canada’s RADARSAT data. Then at Safe Software, Drew helped Governments across North America integrate data from disparate systems. In Drew’s current role as the Canadian Territory Manager for Socrata, he has taken the next step in helping governments unlock their data by facilitating the engagement of their citizens via “open data”. Thereby promoting transparency, entrepreneurship, collaborative analysis and ultimately, informed decision making.
