A dynamic duo that leads a team of collaborators from Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Brazil and Europe, Philippe Lafreniere (Canada) and Gabriel Bronfman (Mexico) drop the notion of borders to embrace the magic of artistic collaboration and intercultural exchange. People Project is a product of the heart – led by two artists driven by an all-encompassing love – and hope – for humanity, as reinforced by their highly personal and philosophical lyrics. People Project is by the people, for the people – and in celebration of people everywhere. The sincerity of their efforts to build bridges – creatively and otherwise – is the reason why this music matters.
An independent band working through their own organization UP & UP MUSIC, People Project is a proud recipient of the Ontario Arts Council’s Popular Music Grant which supported the recording of their latest album ‘Natural’ (2009).
Philippe Lafrenire – drums, percussion, vocals

When & Where
The Mercury Lounge has been a Mecca for the arts in Canada's capital city of Ottawa, since its inception in November 1996. Its programming purports a musical vision steeped in the traditions of jazz and yet forward in its approach to encompass all its many derivatives. Through its dynamic programming, the Mercury Lounge has successfully connected the dots, uniting jazz with contemporary electronic break beat culture. Within its walls the very philosophy of jazz, that of change, abounds. It serves not only as a club, and live venue, but also for poetry readings, dance performances and art gallery.
