Peter Roberts, Chief Risk Officer, Coast Capital

In his capacity as Coast Capital’s Chief Risk Officer, Peter is responsible for directing and leading the risk oversight function for Coast Capital in accordance with our risk appetite and regulatory requirements. This includes assessing the adequacy of, ensuring compliance with, and effectiveness of Coast Capital is operating procedures.

Peter holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Manitoba. He brings over 30 years of financial service experience to his role, including progressively senior roles within HSBC Bank Canada. Peter is actively involved with his community. Peter is the former Vice President of the Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter and former Co-Treasurer for the Rotary Club of Langley.

Sophia Tsui, Chief Risk Officer, HSBC Bank Canada

Sophia was appointed as Chief Risk Officer for HSBC Bank Canada in March 2021. She was previously the Senior Vice President and Chief Auditor from 2016 to 2021 and prior to that, the Global Head of Risk Governance and Risk Appetite based in London. Sophia joined HSBC in 1994, and her 29 year career with the Bank has spanned various areas: 5 years in Commercial Banking, 19 years in Risk Management and 5 years in Internal Audit.

Sophia is a risk and internal control professional with extensive experience in global financial services. She enjoys leading new practices and championing a culture of innovation for risk management. She is passionate about people development that inspires them to become stronger and more valuable contributors to the organization.

Outside of HSBC, she serves as the Treasurer of a school foundation Board of Directors with the goal of providing financial assistance for girls’ education, and a Director of Dress for Success, supporting economic empowerment for women.

Sophia was named one of Women’s Executive Network (WXN’s) Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada in 2018. In 2019, she was recognized as one of British Columbia’s Most Influential Women in Finance by BC Business Magazine. Most recently in 2022, she was recognized for Excellence in Industry by the Association for Women in Finance. She is also an Executive Sponsor and advocate for HSBC Employee Resource Groups, and mentors both internally and externally in industry.

Sophia is a Chartered Professional Accountant and holds a Bachelors of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University. She has also completed a number of executive leadership courses through Duke University, Stanford and London School of Business.

Nezihe Aquino, CPA, CRO, Vancity

Nez Aquino is the SVP Enterprise Risk and Chief Risk Officer at Vancity. Her team oversees the credit, legal services and enterprise risk management functions while supporting the organization to make timely, strategic decisions that help to deliver a differentiated member experience.

Nez has held progressive roles at Vancity over the last 15 years leading Finance, Payment Solutions, and Retail Banking prior to her role as the CRO. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant with over two decades of experience in banking. Prior to joining Vancity, Nez worked at the Bank of America’s credit card division supporting the business performance of that organization. Nez is a Board Director at Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Open Banking Expo.

Nez is a values-based, resilient and high energy executive who is passionate about giving back to the community. In her spare time, Nez enjoys cooking, doing yoga and is an opera enthusiast.

Edwin Ho, Director & Group Lead, Scotiabank, Real Estate Banking

Edwin has 20 years of financial industry experience covering a variety of Commercial Banking roles and market segments. He is currently Director & Group Lead with Scotiabank’s Real Estate Banking Group where he is focused on providing financing and banking services for some of the top real estate developers in Vancouver. Edwin is also a Chartered Professional Accountant and President of the Vancouver RMA chapter.
