Description

Join us at the 2014 Table Matters Event

This year the Table Matters Event is going to focus on Food Recovery - you will be surprised by how much food is lost as food waste and how much potential it has to nourish us. Five local experts will share how they are transforming the concept of "food waste" into food on tables - safely and deliciously.

After diving into the theme of Food Recovery, we'll take a much broader look at our local food system with our Mayor's Panel. Each Mayor will be asked a series of questions to share with us their hopes, challenges, and vision for local food system development. Audience members will be given the opportunity to ask questions too!

Join us for an evening of discovery, great food, and opportunities to network.

A Little Background Information:

The local food system includes all steps of the food we eat from growing, harvesting, processing, transporting, packaging, selling, preparing, consumping, to disposing or composting. Food touches every aspect of our lives, from daily meals with our families to trips to the grocery store or community garden in our neighbourhoods and beyond. Two years ago our community came together to share their hopes, values, and thoughts about our local food system. As a result the North Shore Food Charter was created - a foundation for local food policy development.

Now the North Shore Food Charter has been endorsed by all the North Shore municipalities (Lions Bay, Bowen Island, District of West Vancouver, City of North Vancouver, and District of North Vancouver). What's next? How do we realize the Food Charter in our neighbourhoods?

Organized by

Table matters is a network of people who live, work and eat in the communities that make up Vancouver’s North Shore.  We bring together citizens, community organizations, local businesses, government, and schools, and undertake projects and initiatives to help grow a sustainable food system and contribute to making our communities thrive.
