As part of Mental Health Awareness Week we present 'Talking About Trauma'
A breakfast discussion | Panel
Trauma quietly affects how we view ourselves and others. It works itself out as evidenced in how we lead, how we parent, how we work and how we react to others. It plays a role as we enter into the arenas of addiction, friendship, faith and community. Our panel will explore the subject and highlight some keys to creating places of safety and help for those of us affected by the pain of trauma.
Trauma defined: Trauma can occur when we have been exposed to something that causes such extreme stress our brain cannot effectively process the experience. This can be one experience, or repeated experiences. So often, trauma begins when we are only children. In many cases the scars left from our traumatic experiences are invisible. Nevertheless, the impacts of our trama continue to invade our daily lives and affect our whole self - mind , body and spirit. (excerpt from B.C. Borstal Association /Trauma Care Division)
