TORONTO - The summer is heating up once again with the Fifth Annual Toronto Burlesque Festival! In less than six weeks the Festival celebrates FIVE years of presenting the most scintillating and seductive performances to our audiences. They’ve succeeded in their goal to make Toronto a burlesque destination in the world and the community grows every year by leaps and bounds with more performers and new producers sharing their visions. At the same time, experienced producers expand their scope with increased show time and experimentation within our field. Toronto itself has become a hub of talent in the burlesque world. This year the Toronto Burlesque Festival received a record number of amazing applications from both local and international performers – so many that they were forced to add a show! This year’s Festival will feature more than 120 unique performances over a record seven shows!
The Headlining Line-up includes such powerhouses of the neo-burlesque community as first Canadian to win the title of Queen of Burlesque, ROXI DLITE (Windsor: 2010), MICHELLE L’AMOUR (Chicago: Miss Exotic World 2005), international award-winning Master of Ceremonies ARMITAGE SHANKS (Seattle), KRISTINA NEKYIA (Hollywood: First Runner-Up, Burlesque Hall of Fame 2010), JETT ADORE (Chicago: Best Duo Burlesque Hall of Fame 2012, Best Troupe 2011), AMBER RAY (NYC), NASTY CANASTA (NYC: 2ND Runner-up, Burlesque Hall of Fame 2010; Most Comedic 2007), pole-dancing duo GRAVITY PLAYS FAVORITES (St. Louis), CHERRY TYPHOON (Japan: Best Troupe Miss Exotic World 2006), LOLA MARTINET (Chicago/San Francisco: Best Variety Burlesque Hall of Fame 2010; Most Comedic 2011), MISS ALYSSA KITT (Australia: Winner of Most Classic and Best Tassel Twirl, Miss Burlesque Australia Competition 2012), PACO FISH (Baltimore: 2012 Most Humorous, Boston Burlesque Expo; 2011 King of Southern Exposure – Southern Fried Burlesque Festival), VICTORIA ROMANOVA (Russia/Netherlands), The EmpeROAR Fabulous (Seattle: Judges Choice, Boston Burlesque Expo 2011) and KISS ME KATE (San Francisco).
Closer to home, the Headlining Line-up also features amazing solo and group performances from Founding Troupe, SKIN TIGHT OUTTA SIGHT, including Festival Founder SAUCI CALLA HORRA and Artistic Director/Ist Inductee into Canadian Burlesque Hall of Fame, TANYA CHEEX. Gracing our stage from Toronto, COCO FRAMBOISE, MYSTERION THE MIND READER, MISS MITZY CREAM (2nd Inductee in Canadian Burlesque Hall of Fame; Multiple award-winner, Boston Burlesque Expo), FIONNA FLAUNTIT, MAHOGANY STORM, LES COQUETTES, ST. STELLA & JAMES AND THE GIANT PASTY (Winners of Most Beautiful Award, Boston Burlesque Expo 2012) and BOYLESQUE TO will delight our crowd. They are also thrilled to host such luminaries of the Canadian Burlesque Scene as BURGUNDY BRIXX (Director of The Vancouver Burlesque Centre; Best Soloist, Boston Burlesque Expo 2012), MLLE OUI OUI ENCORE (Founder of Blue Light Burlesque, 1st troupe in Montreal), SCARLETT JAMES (Founder of Montreal Burlesque Festival) and CHAMPAGNE SPARKLES (Founding Member of Cheesecake Burlesque Revue, Victoria, BC).
Last but definitely not least, they will be hosting the first Canadian Legend of Burlesque, MS. JUDITH STEIN. Originally from Woodbridge, ON, Ms. Stein answered an ad for topless go-go girls in the late ‘60s and this led to an international burlesque career spanning 17 years. She retired to Nelson BC in the 1990s but was sought out to join the neo-burlesque scene in BC just two short years ago. Ms. Stein will knock everyone’s socks off with a performance on Saturday night before her induction into the Canadian Burlesque Hall of Fame during their Closing Ceremonies on Sunday July 22.
Beyond the Performances, the festival has partnered with Kristi Holtam of Bombshell Artillery to produce a series of illustrated images of some of the key players in Toronto’s burlesque scene. Image of Sauci Calla Horra, Festival Founder is featured in this year’s logo to celebrate our fifth year of producing the biggest burlesque event in Eastern Canada. These illustrations will be featured in commemorative merchandise for sale, in display in our Art Show and during the shows on Thursday and Friday at The Gladstone Hotel.
Olena Sullivan of Photolena and The Painted Lady have sponsored this year’s Art Show, titled “Crossing Borders.” Art will be on display from Monday, July 16 through to Sunday, July 22 and will be auctioned during the Inaugural Closing Ceremonies with partial proceeds going to support the Festival. The Reception will be on Wednesday, July 18 at The Painted Lady from 6 pm to 1 am. Toronto Burlesque Festival
The Toronto Burlesque Festival is back August 27 - 30, 2015 with shows at Revival and The Virgin Mobile Mod Club. This four day whirlwind of performance, parties, and workshops is not to be missed!
The Toronto Burlesque Festival has been tantalizing audiences with top quality burlesque from our city, our nation and beyond since 2008. Now in our eighth year, we celebrate over a decade of Burlesque Community in Toronto. Burlesque has exploded as an art form since the inception of The Toronto Burlesque and Vaudeville Alliance in 2003.
We invite you to immerse yourself in our seductive world. Enjoy special rates to stay at our sponsor Hotel, The Hyatt Regency, where many of our performers and headliners will be spending their time when they're not dazzling on stage. Come learn the tricks of our trade and tease with the best teachers at our Burlesque University, hosted by The Coco Framboise School of Burlesque. Witness the mindblowing performances of such world-renowned artists as Kitten n' Lou (Seattle); Aurora Galore (UK) and more.
The 8th Toronto Burlesque Festival is produced by SAUCI CALLA HORRA of Skin Tight Outta Sight (Founder and Executive Producer; Founder of Toronto Burlesque and Vaudeville Alliance), COCO FRAMBOISE (Executive Director of Programming/Creative Director) and AVA NOIR (Executive Director Sponsorship & Communications).
