Description

WHAT: Transition Canoe Trip
WHERE: Algonquin Park, Ontario
WHEN: July 18-20, 2016
WHO: Teens aged 15-17 with Type 1

Whether it’s your first or one hundredth trip, we want to paddle with you.

Our first Transition Canoe Trip in Algonquin Park will pair youth with Type 1 diabetes with CIM mentors to explore the backcountry together, and learn what this whole ‘adult care’ thing is all about. While exploring the lakes and woods of Ontario’s near north, we will discuss the highs and lows of transitioning to adulthood with T1 diabetes.

We will meet in Toronto, on Monday morning and travel together up to Algonquin Park. Sorry, parents – we’re leaving you behind in the city, but we’ll see you on Wednesday! We will start our trip on Rain Lake, and spend Tuesday paddling and camping. On Wednesday, we’ll paddle back to the bus, and head back to the city.

The Transition Canoe Trip will cater to a wide range of skill levels and experience from both youth and mentors, but will be very limited in space. We will be accepting 10 teen participants. The rest of our trippers will be made up of T1 mentors, nurses and guides both with Type 1 Diabetes, and without. (If you would like to canoe with adults, please check out our Annual canoe trip, or 5.5er canoe trip.)
