ZYRYAB - 8th Annual International Jondo Flamenco Festival Kickoff
Sunday, 6 May 2012 from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM (PDT)
The 8th Annual International Jondo Flamenco Festival kicks off its 2012 edition with a mystical journey back in time where common pathways between Flamenco and Persian Musical traditions are tested to the limit.
This production is artistically directed by Pirouz Ebadypour, also known as Pirouz de Caspio who is the only Persian flamenco singer who has appeared on international stages in various countries and who is among the very few top authentic flamenco singers who professionally sing in North America. In 2004, he founded the world's first online 24/7 flamenco radio station known as "Flamenco Beat" which with over 15,000 monthly listeners, is now one of the most authentic and listened to online flamenco radio stations in the world. He is also a composer and the founder of the Jondo Flamenco Festival back in 2003.
ZYRYAB which is a long-awaited dream of Pirouz being realized, is in its 4th year of development and has been charting new territories since its inception in 2008 and keeps on taking the bar up a few notches everytime it sets foot onto the stage. The main reason for its continued success has been the maintained vision of creating a fusion that respects both flamenco and traditional Persian musical traditions independently and then properly integrating them; not just sewing them together. For this reason, ZYRYAB has always invited the best musicians to share the stage as guest artists. This year is no different!
In the 2012 edition of this production, ZYRYAB will feature flamenco and traditional Persian singing, flamenco dance, sama sufi dance, Piano, Flamenco Guitar, Tar, Setar, Oud, Kamanche, various percussive instruments including, but not limited to Tombak, Daf, Udu, and Cajon.
