Event Details

Dates: September 13rd, 20th and 27th, 2011 Time: 11:20 AM to 1:35 PM

This three part interactive series of workshops is geared towards establishing best practices in the non-profit/voluntary sector. Through the expertise of the collaborating organizations you will learn how to: create an inviting culture that attracts and retains new volunteers; develop effective screening procedures, discovering tools that help you re-think your organization’s approach to screening; and showing volunteers and clients that they are valued.

Part 1: Volunteer Recruitment

Tuesday, September 13th

This session discusses the process of recruiting volunteers to organizations or for specific projects or initiatives addressing Why, What, Who, How and When, while building the capacity of voluntary sector organizations to recruit volunteers; creating an understanding of the various elements that go into the process of volunteer recruitment; and providing information, discussion and checklists to aid participants in developing or refining their volunteer recruitment strategies.

Part 2: Screening In, Not Out

Tuesday, September 20th

Often, volunteer-engaging organizations feel at odds- they want to protect those whom they serve, but do not want to alienate potential volunteers with unwelcoming screening procedures. Solve this problem and re-vamp your organization’s volunteer-screening process in this second workshop.

Part 3: Volunteer Retention

Tuesday, September 27th

In the final session, you will be exploring ‘What Works’ in the element of Volunteer Retention, recognizing that volunteer retention is fundamentally a work of relationship and trust building; instilling a sense of validation in your volunteers.
