A framework for reporting greenhouse gas emissions – Developing a good carbon disclosure framework
Corporate boards and management teams are facing increased pressure from regulators,shareholders, customers, employees, and local communities to measure, disclose, and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. With the absence of consistent rules for reporting GHG emissions, a diverse set of reporting practices has emerged.

Wendy Potomski, Vice President PwC
Wendy Potomski is a Vice President within PwC’s Consulting and Deals Practice, and a Charter Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder. Wendy brings over 17 years of consulting experience assisting clients identify risks and opportunities associated with an evolving energy industry, cleantech market, and carbon constrained economy.
Since 1999, Wendy has closely followed changes in the climate change, energy, and environmental sectors, both in Ontario and around the world. She uses this knowledge and her awareness of relevant local and international best practices to address emerging government and client issues, and to identify and address current and future business and operational risks.
As a climate change expert, Wendy assists multi-national organizations to compile and calculate greenhouse gas emissions inventories, from which to benchmark their operations, and to develop informed energy and carbon management strategies, including the identification of clean technologies to support environmental outcomes. Wendy understands regulatory requirements, and has worked with companies to identify impacts and opportunities for their organizations.

Property owners and property managers are increasingly measuring their building carbon emissions. Reasons are many – they want to achieve cost savings and reputational benefits and manage future risk.
In this presentation Francisca will address:

- The proxess of carbon management
- Carbon calculation and tools
- Carbon benchmarks
- Carbon credits
She will talk to these topics from her experience in having assisted more than 20 organizations and building owners in quantifying building and portfolio carbon footprints, implementing software and developing carbon emissions reduction programs.

Francisca's experience includes 15 years in corporate strategy, organizational development, climate change mitigation and corporate sustainability integration. Prior to joining Loop, she worked for Oliver Wyman Consulting in North America, a leading international management consultancy, and in London with the UK-based Carbon Trust. Francisca leverages her experience from having worked with large progressive organizations on carbon management and with investors on identifying risks and opportunities from climate change.
Francisca is the driving force behind Loop’s work on sustainability program design, sustainability performance management and carbon emissions insights. Her current client portfolio includes progressive Canadian companies who are seeking business growth, leadership reputation, risk mitigation and profitability from corporate sustainability initiatives.
Francisca has spoken on sustainability and carbon management-related topics to business and investor audiences and she advised the FTSE Index Group on climate change criteria in its development of the FTSE4Good Index products. Francisca regularly contributes to sustainability-related articles in real estate and hospitality industry newsletters and she highlights sustainability leadership on Twitter.
Francisca holds a M.Sc. in economics and business administration, Stockholm of Economics. She has a deep personal engagement in environmental issues and champions a low carbon lifestyle.

Erik Veldman, Environment and Climate Change Project Manager, CSA
The ISO 14064 series of GHG quantification, reporting and verification standards are useful tools to assist organizations in their quest to become carbon neutral. Substantiating and communicating carbon neutral claims and avoiding "greenwashing" accusations can, however, be challenging. CSA Standards has responded to this challenge by launching a new standards-based program that provides an independent and transparent process for organizations and building owners to declare their carbon advantage.

Erik Veldman Bio
Erik Veldman is Environment and Climate Change Project Manager with CSA. Erik manages projects working with governments and business on sustainability initiatives including quantifying and reporting GHG emissions. He has represented CSA and Canada in several international standards initiatives and has recently been appointed Secretary of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), Technical Committee on Environmental Management – ISO/TC 207.
Prior to joining CSA, Erik was Sustainability Program Manager at the Pollution Probe Foundation and an Associate with the global consulting firm Five Winds International. He is also past Program Manager of the London Environment Centre, at London Guildhall University in the UK.
