President, Intrinsic Management Consulting Inc.

Presentation Overview

To implement or not to implement, that is NOT the question.  Most organizations today recognize that information and technology are valuable assets that enable the entire organization.  The pervasive use of technology to manage information has created a critical dependency that requires a special focus on the control environment.  Yet despite the increasing maturity of well-regarded frameworks such as COBIT, ITIL, TOGAF, PMBOK, ISO etc., acceptance and adoption of information and related controls is not widespread.  So, the real questions are ‘can you afford not to implement industry standards’ and ‘how do you achieve success’. This session will look at the key concepts of effective development and implementation of practical controls, identify major barriers to acceptance and adoption and propose factors for achieving success.

Speaker Profile

Becky McCaffrey draws on over 25 years’ management experience from private industry, not-for-profit associations and the public service. Her background in accounting, business, and information and related technology management has contributed to her understanding and passion for developing and implementing practical standards-based controls.  In fact, she believes that the foundation of effective management is derived through documenting what you do or want to do, doing what you say, and continuously striving to improve and become more efficient in what you do or want to do.

For the past 5 years, Becky has been working with several GoA Departments and the Post-Secondary Sector to develop and implement control frameworks, policies and supporting controls.  She has gained insight into the realized benefits, critical success factors and lessons learned and will share these with the audience through an interactive presentation.
