Event Details

Explore the buying and selling of Asian women and its negative impacts on achieving racial and gender equality. Everyday through the backpages of newspapers and online classifieds, Asian women are being bought and sold. Advertisements that use racist stereotypes to market Asian women help entrench prostituted and trafficked Asian women in brothels and massage parlours.

Approximately 60% of online ads on Craigslist posted over the course of 24 hours featured Asian women, despite the fact that Asian women do not represent approximately 60% of people in the Lower Mainland.

The panel discussion will open with a short clip from the NFB film "Avenue Zero."

Panelists will include: Suzanne Jay, Sarah Mah and Nerissa Yan

Moderator: Carole Anne Soong

The event is free and light refreshments will be provided. For more information, please email awcep.info@gmail.com
