Feature Presentation: Using Sustainable Intelligence To Improve the Performance of Buildings

Sustainable Intelligence describes every facet of Oxford’s approach to sustainability - from identifying opportunities and establishing goals, through to implementing plans and measuring performance. In 2008 Oxford set out an ambitious, but achievable, goal to reduce the GHGs from its properties by 20% by the year 2012 (Target 2012). Oxford has reported publicly on its sustainability performance since 2008, and recently launched its first Sustainability Report which includes several new targets. Darryl will share details of Oxford’s Sustainable Intelligence program and Target 2012 commitment, case studies from across its portfolio, and insights into where Oxford is going next.

About Darryl Neate, Director, Sustainability, Oxford Properties

Darryl Neate is Director, Sustainability at Oxford Properties Group - one of Canada’s leading commercial real estate firms with over 40 million square feet of Office, Retail, Industrial, Residential and Hotel property.

He has over 12 years experience in the environmental field in standards development, consulting and training, and currently oversees sustainability strategy and performance management at Oxford. Darryl is responsible for Oxford’s industry-leading Sustainable Intelligence program, and has been a driving force behind Oxford’s leadership as the first real estate owner in Canada to calculate its Greenhouse Gas Inventory and set a corporate reduction target – Oxford’s “Target 2012” commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2012, based on a 2005 base year.

Darryl has an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo, an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University, is a LEED Accredited Professional, and is active across a range of advisory groups, committees and courses within the Canadian Commercial Real Estate Sector.
