Description

Designed to help you create the illusion of visual space that you want to, whether it is a realistic deep or a flat abstract illusion, this structured workshop will help you create what you imagined. Learn how to manipulate color, value (lightness or darkness), color saturation (intensity), size and placement of shapes and textures, as well as linear perspective. The cues covered during this workshop apply to any and all media.

SUPPLIES

Most of the supplies are included in the workshop. If you have the following supplies already, please bring them to the workshop :

  • Many colorful magazines to cut for collage
  • A small container with a lid (i.e. small yogurt cup or small jar)
  • A variety of pieces of paper or board on which to create collages such as medium weight art paper, the back of paper pads, mat board pieces, corrugated cardboard pieces, etc. Sizes about 8.5 x 11 in.
  • A flexible palette knife

Please bring the following with you the day of the workshop:

  • Tweezers
  • A sharp pair of scissors or an Xacto knife and a cutting mat
  • A value scale or grey scale card
  • A lunch and snack for the day

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Through her artworks, Susan Kristoferson investigates the fissure between the tangible and the intangible. She specializes in surface design processes for paper, especially itajime (fold, clamp and dye.) Susan also specializes in hand painted paste papers which utilize a cooked starch paste as the carrier for acrylic paint. Susan creates both large and small collages as well as panels of uniquely patterned papers. She earned a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin and an MFA in Fiber Arts from Indiana University in Bloomington in the USA. An art teacher since 1975 she has taught at all levels. She lives on a ridgetop next to Turner Valley, Alberta and enjoys a spectacular view of the grasslands, foothills and Rocky Mountains in the ever changing light of the big sky of Alberta.
