Film Screening of "Bicycle"
Event Information
About this Event
'Bicycle' is a 90 minute 2014 documentary film about the bicycle and its history in Great Britain. Written and directed by BAFTA winning director and cyclist Michael B. Clifford, 'Bicycle' gives us the Victorian origins, decline and re-emergence of this delightful, efficient and influential mode of transportation, that has the power to change our landscapes and inspire our imagination. Watch the trailer HERE.
In an interview with Single Track World magazine,[2] film director Michael Clifford was asked, "Is there anyone thing you can think of that might make cycling better in the UK?" he responds "... ultimately the simplest change would make the biggest difference, and that is the government recognizing cycling as a form of transport – which it doesn't at the moment. What would hopefully follow on from that would be a guaranteed spend, and you'd start to see many forms of change and accommodation, so that more people would feel comfortable using bikes on a day-to-day basis."
The film discusses the many aspects of the bicycle, from design to competitive sport to mobility through stories and interviews with notable contributors. With historic footage, animation and enjoyable music, 'Bicycle' takes you on a warm and humourous trip through time, with thoughtful reflections on the impacts of cycling on British culture and its people.
