Join us on October 15th in celebration of Islamic Heritage Month and in celebration of youth.

We are hosting a free screening of CBC POV documentary 14 & Muslim in partnership with Inspirit Foundation, The Tessellate Institute, National Council of Canadian Muslims and the TDSB Islamic Heritage Month Planning Committee.

Filmmaker and film participants will be in attendance along with guest panelists and special CBC host Farrah Merali.

Farrah Merali - Host

Farrah Merali is an award-winning multiplatform reporter with CBC News Toronto. She spends much of her days covering breaking news but has a special interest in foreign policy, urban health issues, the opioid crisis and provincial politics. Farrah has a background in political science and most recently covered the 2018 Ontario provincial election from Toronto, the nail-biter 2017 provincial race in B.C. from Vancouver and the 2016 U.S. Presidential election from Washington state. She’s previously reported from Montreal, Ramallah and Jerusalem as a freelance journalist.

Farrah has a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University in English Literature and International Relations. She completed her Masters in Journalism, with a specialization in Broadcast journalism, at Ryerson University in 2010.


Timaj Garad - Guest Performance

A diasporic Ethiopian-Canadian multi-disciplinary Storyteller, Arts Educator, and Creative Consultant, using spoken word poetry and theatre to engage individuals and communities. Her art is auto-biographical, working at the intersections of a black Muslim woman challenging injustice, unearthing truths, and healing. As an award-winning Artist and Poet, Timaj Garad has performed at over 200 events across the country and facilitated several original arts-based workshops.
