Event description

Description

In celebration of Canada's 150th Birthday, we are inviting 150 citizens to paint 150 banners depicting Canadian imagery, themes, and their own interpretation of “My Canada” - it's past, present, and future.

Working within broad themes, community members will paint images, ideas, words, and more onto banners that will be displayed in public spaces throughout this 150th summer of celebration.

DETAILS:

Sign up for one of 10 workshops. Each session is 3 hours long and will be held in the classroom at OPUS Arts Supplies on Ellis Street (must enter from back alley). Participants may leave if finished early. Come a few minutes early to sign in and pick your spot.

• There is room for a maximum of 10 people per workshop. Come on your own or sign up with a group of friends or family and make a night of it.
• You will choose from 10 themes to depict your unique, personal vision of “My Canada” onto a 22” wide x 26” tall canvas (portrait layout). Themes include such areas as Our Provinces, Agriculture, Technology, Prominent People of Canada, Arts & Culture, and Diversity. We have so much to celebrate.
• You are welcome to bring along pictures or other items to provide inspiration as you paint, and local artists will be onsite to assist during the workshops. Explore your inner artist!
• All painting supplies will be provided thanks to the generosity of Canadian Heritage, the City of Kelowna, and OPUS Arts Supplies.
• You should plan on completing your banner during your 3 hour workshop as we have limited spots available and need to accommodate other community members.
• The finished banners will be hung at local Canada 150 events throughout the summer but will be returned to you in late September to keep as a memento of this milestone in our Country's history.
