About this event

The Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency (NSAA) has received an application to designate Black Beauty Culture Hair Innovator (natural hair care) as a voluntary trade. This includes hair services such as braids, weaves, knots, and locs.

The application was reviewed by a Trade Advisory Committee composed of individuals who are involved in this work. We are at the consultation stage and would like to hear from people of African and Indigenous descent, as well as hairstyling professionals and educators. NSAA and the Department of Labour and Advanced Education invite you to help determine if there is support for Black Beauty Culture Hair Innovator (natural hair care) to become a voluntary trade with a training pathway for certification. We also want your input on how to enhance the understanding that natural hair care services are not regulated under the Cosmetology Act.

Thank you for registering to attend and sharing your opinion.

If you choose to participate in the virtual session, you must register with your name and email address so that we can confirm your registration and notify you of any changes. Your registration information is kept confidential and not linked to your feedback. Personal information provided as part of your virtual registration and engagement session participation is collected, used, and disclosed solely by the Black Business Initiative to process your online registration, enable your virtual participation, and contact you about future developments when necessary.
