Description

The world of sourdough is vast and magical -- at this 2-Day Workshop you will learn the basics of baking with sourdough through hands on work. Each student takes home all of the products that they produce, including fresh loaves of sourdough and a seasonal pie made with a pastry crust that utilizes the flavour potential in a healthy sourdough starter. We will discuss wild yeast, the benefit of fermenting flour, and how you can use and maintain your take-home starter. You will leave with some new-found knowledge and confidence to continue your sourdough baking adventures at home.

Day 1 will be our busiest day. We will start working on our sourdough loaves -- beginning with the basic necessities: flour, water, and salt. We will learn about and discuss the process of making sourdough at home and just how this sourdough starter works. We will talk about other baked goods a starter could be used in and get started on our sourdough pie dough for our pie building tomorrow. As we near the end of our day, we will break for a light lunch with wine before shaping up our loaves and cleaning up.

Day 2 will be more relaxed while we bake our loaves from the previous day and build our pies. Each student will feed some sourdough starter to take home with them and continue on their sourdough baking journey. A light lunch with wine is included in Day 2 as well. At the end of our weekend workshop, each student will go home with a recipe booklet, sourdough starter and instructions to keep it alive + well, 2 loaves of freshly baked sourdough and a pie to bake at home.

Extra Info:
We will be on our feet for the workshop so you are welcome to bring indoor shoes or slippers to make you more comfortable. We will be indoors overlooking Beaufitul Georgian Bay.

Feel free (it is recommended) to bring a water bottle with you. Coffee will be provided in the morning and water will be available.

FAQs

What if I've never baked before and don't really understand what "sourdough" is?
That is totally O.K! This course is designed to appease people of all skill levels. Please come, bring your curiosity and get ready to learn!

Do I need to bring any tools/aprons/bowls/etc. with me?
Everything needed to complete the workshop will be provided for you. All you need to bring is yourself + an eager appetite for all things sourdough!

What is the refund policy?
You are eligbile for a full refund up until 30 days before the event takes place. After the 30 days, refunds will not be given. You are however able to send someone in your place if you aren't able to make it!

How long are the days?
On Day 1, the workshop will run from 10am until approximately 3pm. Day 2 will begin at 10am and finish between 1-2pm. The time is dependent on how much curiousity and conversation is created throughout the day.
