Proudly presents and invites you to the
2012 Stanley Knowles Humanitarian Service Lecture:
"Indigenous Peoples and the Search for Human Security"
Delivered by:
The Honourable Lloyd Axworthy, P.C., O.C., O.M., Ph.D.
Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the Humanities Theatre, University of Waterloo
As the current President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Winnipeg, Dr. Axworthy is leading the effort to improve access to post-secondary education for Aboriginal students. He is perhaps best known for a 27-year political career that included several high profile cabinet postings -- most notably five years as Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs.
During his time with Foreign Affairs, Dr. Axworthy was internationally recognized for his advancement of the human security concept, in particular, the Ottawa Treaty -- a landmark global treaty banning anti-personnel landmines -- work which resulted in a Nobel Peace Prize nomination.
"Indigenous Peoples and the Search for Human Security" promises to be an insightful and thought provoking discussion of a timely and important topic.
