The Civic Orchestra of Victoria is pleased to present its 2017-2018 concert season!

This season your local community orchestra brings you five (5) fantastic performances, under the musical direction of Brian Wismath. Buy a season ticket package that includes all five concerts and save!

NOTES:

  • Season ticket packages ordered through Eventbrite will be sent by mail prior to the first concert. Ticket packages ordered after October 6, 2017 will be held at Will Call for pickup 1 hour prior to the first concert.
  • Secondary and Post-Secondary student tickets are always $10 per concert with valid student ID
  • Tickets for children 12 and under are FREE when accompanied by an adult with a paid ticket. *Please purchase and print a FREE children's ticket (found on the individual concert ticket sales pages on Eventbrite.com) - all attendees must have a ticket to enter*

A rare public performance from internationally acclaimed pianist, Shoko Inoue. Her interpretation of one of the greatest masterpieces in the piano repertoire is not to be missed! Vibrant and skilled, with unlimited musical colour and an expressive spirit, Shoko Inoue's performances attest to her ability to recreate for listeners the transcendental world of the composers' faithful vision.

2) A FAMILY HOLIDAY WITH FESTIVE BRASS

The Civic Orchestra is delighted to be joining the Festive Brass to bring you a performance that is guaranteed to leave you filled with holiday cheer. Whether you identify with Santa Claus, or if the Grinch is more your style -- this concert has something for you! Be prepared to lend your voice to some carol singing, hear some subime music inspired by the season, and laugh out loud at the comedic skills of four of Vancouver Island's silliest musicians.

4) FROM IRELAND TO ITALY

Soak up some afternoon classics before you head out on the town to celebrate the Patron Saint of Ireland! Our guest conductor for this concert, Yariv Aloni, studied conducting under the tutelage of the Hungarian conductor János Sándor. Aloni currently teaches chamber music at the University of Victoria and is the music director of the Galiano Ensemble of Victoria, the Victoria Chamber Orchestra, and the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra. He has received praise for conducting “impassioned, inspiring” and “magnificently right” interpretations of major orchestral and choral repertoire. Reviewers also describe Aloni as “a musician of considerable insight and impeccable taste.” The Civic Orchestra is always delighted to have the opportunity to work with such a master of orchestral craft.

5) AN AFTERNOON AT THE OPERA

Nathan McDonald, Bass

Join us for an afternoon of opera highlights narrated by local musical treasure and opera aficionado, Robert Holliston. Opera lovers and those who are just being introduced to the art form are sure to learn something new and interesting! Robert has given pre-performance lectures for Pacific Opera Victoria since 1993 and hosts their free community series 'INSIDE OPERA with Robert Holliston' and many other community engagement events. Robert is also the Head of Keyboard at the Victoria Conservatory of Music and still actively performs as a piano soloist and chamber musician.

Jennifer Turner and Nathan McDonald are two superb local vocalists who will help bring these beautiful opera selections to life!

All ages are welcome! Please bring valid student ID to purchase $10 student tickets.

*A limited number of FREE tickets are available for children ages 12 and under. Children MUST be accompanied by an adult with a ticket. Maximum 2 children per adult.
