Event description

Description

AEN is focussed on building capacity to preserve and protect Alberta’s environment. We work to support and amplify AEN members’ work. Over the past two years, AEN members have discussed strategies to optimise the impact of the Network and its member organisations. This fall we will gather over 1½ days to put these strategies into practice.

AEN member groups work on a broad range of inter-connected issues covering a wide geographic area. The urgency of our environmental objectices requires that we work together strategically and effectively. Meeting in person—knowing each another, our environmental imperatives, and how to support each other—is very important to actualising collective action and impact. To this end we have organised three events that provide practical instruction, knowledge exchange, and skill building to guide and focus our collective purpose. We strongly encourage you to join your fellow environmental advocates on November 17 and 18 to contribute your unique perspective and expertise.

An evening with Linda Duncan: Working towards a Canadian Environmental Bill of Rights

Friday, November 17, 7pm
Venue: TBA

Linda Duncan is the Member of Parliament for Edmonton Strathcona and currently serves as the NDP's Critic for Environment and Climate Change. The evening's interactive discussion will start of with Ms. Duncan speaking on a range of topics including the establishment of a Canadian Environmental Bill of Rights which would extend to all Canadians the right to a clean ecologically-balanced environment, impose duties on the federal government to take actions to enact and enforce protections and extend rights to Canadians to environmental information, to participate in decisions impacting the environment and to take action to force government action. She will share her knowledge and ideas about the status of federal environmental issues and the importance of national and provincial environmental networks.

This talk is open to all members of the public.

AEN Fall Cross Caucus Meetings: wisdom + planning + hard work + passion

Saturday, November 18, 9am to 4pm

To set the stage we’ll start with an open discussion of Alberta’s environmental community as a whole, a very brief recap of past strategy discussions, members AEN’s role and direction, the system in which AEN operates, our successes and failures.

The remainder of the day will focus on actualising AEN’s strategies through our caucus model, how caucuses can be strengthened and proactive, cross-pollination and planning for the short, medium and long term. What we should focus on, stop doing, keep doing and start doing. We will also discuss the importance and development of government relations and campaign skills as well as collaboration with other organisations.
