2017 BC Long Track Championships
Sat, 21 Jan 2017, 7:00 AM – Sun, 22 Jan 2017, 5:00 AM MST
The Dawson Creek Speedskating Club in partnership with Peace Region Speedskating Clubs are proud to announce that the British Columbia Speedskating Association has awarded them the winning bid as the host of the 2017 British Columbia Long Track Championships happening January 21-22, 2017 at the Outdoor Oval which is located behind the high school on Sam Wilson Way.
This event brings skaters from across BC to our community and will invest dollars into our local economy as the skaters have hotels, and spend money at the grocery stores and/or restaurants. The Dawson Creek Speedskating Club last hosted the event in 2007, and was slated to hold it in 2011, but extremely cold weather relocated the event to Fort St. John.
Community members, friends and families are invited out to watch and cheer on our Dawson Creek skaters and other skaters as well. This is a family friendly event with a great team of volunteers, officials and organizers
Dawson Creek Speedskating Club asks that if you plan on skating prior to the event please keep in mind that the Oval may be closed leading up to the event to keep the ice in top shape. The Club asks that users refrain from playing hockey on the Oval, this could cost us the competition. We had problems last year and we had to close the Oval to the community. Not only does it cost us practice time but it affects the community who uses the Oval as an Outdoor Skating Oval
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
The local transit system has 2 stops either in front of the apartment complex across from the high school or along 108. Routes will be updated closer to the event. Check the Facebook event for all last minute details including if the location changes for unseen circiumstances. For those parking please use the High School parking lot as the Oval Parking Lot will be reserved for skaters, parents, and officials. From the high school simply walk down the road running down the West side of Unchaga Hall. You may also drop off at the Oval and park in the high school parking lot
