FAQs

How do I register for a portfolio session?

First you need to buy a ticket to the Grad Show and specify whether you want a portfolio review in advertising, design, photography or illustration.

You will receive a registration email within 72 hours of your ticket purchase with a separate invitation to choose your time slot in whichever portfolio stream you have specified.

Portfolio reviews are on a first-come, first-serve basis. If registration sells out for your chosen stream before your ticket purchase is processed, you will be added to a waiting list. We will issue refunds for anyone who can't be placed.

How can I choose the creative director or artist who will be reviewing my work?

You may only choose your time slot. Reviewers will not be assigned until the day of the event, but rest assured that all reviewers participating are senior-level creative professionals.

If I buy two tickets, can I get my portfolio reviewed by more than one person?

No. There are a limited number of portfolio review spots and many students need their portfolio reviewed.

If I buy two tickets, can I sign up for multiple time slots in a row to get more time with a reviewer?

No. You may only sign up for one time slot. If you sign up for more than one slot, we will contact you to inform you what time slot you will have to give up.

What can I bring for my portfolio?

You may bring print or digital portfolios of your work that you want critiqued. Remember that you only have 15 minutes with a reviewer, so ensure you cover the work you really want evaluated off the top.

If you are bringing a digital portfolio, you are required to bring your own laptop. There is no set-up time and electrical access will not be provided, so make sure your computer or tablet is fully charged and your work is open and ready to go.

Why is there a cost for the portfolio review?

You are paying a small fee to have access to one-on-one mentorship. The fee goes entirely toward hosting the event.

Do I have to sign up for a portfolio review?

No. You can reserve a general admission ticket to the show to have access to the school and vendor exhibit, reception and art exhibit. You won’t have access to the portfolio review area.

How do I get a free digital subscription to Applied Arts?

Only ticket holders with confirmed portfolio review spots will receive a one-year digital subscription. Confirmation will arrive via email within one week of your registration.

I signed up for a portfolio review but I didn’t get a registration link.

If 72 hours have passed since you bought your ticket for the portfolio review and you have not received an email from us asking you to register for your time slot, call 416-510-0909.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

No minimum age requirements. Alcohol will be served and everyone will be required to show ID if they want to redeem their drink ticket.

What's the refund policy?

Portfolio reviews are on a first-come, first-serve basis. If registration sells out for your chosen stream before your ticket purchase is processed, you will be added to a waiting list. We will issue refunds for anyone who can't be placed.

If you've mistakenly purchased a ticket, we will issue refunds up to one week before the event.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Please bring your ticket to the event, along with your portfolio registration confirmation if you've signed up for a portfolio review.
