The CUFECA Finance and Investment Forum is an annual forum organized by the Central University of Finance and Economics Alumni Association of Canada (CUFECA). The Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) is one of the most prominent educational institutions specializing in finance and economics in China. Some of our distinguished alumni such as Mr. Shaolin Yang, Mr. Xianglong Dai and Mr. Renqing Jin have achieved immense success in their career. Mr. Shaolin Yang is the current Managing Director of the World Bank, Mr. Xianglong Dai was a former governor for the Chinese Central Bank and Mr. Renqing Jin was the former Chinese Minister of Finance.


The first CUFECA Finance and Investment forum was successfully hosted by CUFECA in Vancouver in 2016 and the event attracted well over 200 attendees. The first forum was honored with keynote speakers including CUFE Vice President Jianpin Shi, former Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance & current President and CEO of AdvantageBC, Mr. Colin Hansen, and China Private Equity Management Limited, Management Partner, Mr. Samuel Lou.


The 2017 CUFECA Finance and Investment Forum will be hosted in Toronto, offering insightful presentations on Canada's investment climate, financial technology and innovation, real estate investment, and capital globalization.

Keynote Speakers


Joe Oliver


Joe Oliver is the former Minister of Finance, Minister of Natural Resources and Minister Responsible for the GTA. He presented a budget that was balanced fiscally and socially. Mr. Oliver represented Canada at G7, G 20, IMF and World Bank meetings of Finance Ministers and Governors of Central Banks. He co-chaired the G20 committee responsible for generating and overseeing country plans to increase global growth by $2 trillion.

Previously, Joe Oliver served as President and CEO of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada and founding President of the Mutual Fund Dealers Association. He also served two years as Executive Director of the Ontario Securities Commission. Over two decades, he held senior positions running the investment banking operations at major investment dealers.

Mr. Oliver is Chairman of Echelon Wealth Partners, Director of Firm Capital Mortgage Investment Corporation and High Arctic Resource Services, Chair of the Independent Review Committee of RP Strategic Income Plus Fund, Member of the Board of the Manning Centre and Governor of the Mackenzie Institute. He writes articles for publications, appears on television and radio programs and delivers speeches across the country.


Kurt Reiman


Kurt Reiman is BlackRock’s Chief Investment Strategist for Canada and is a member of the BlackRock Investment Institute (BII). Kurt is responsible for creating value added Canadian financial market and investment insights and communicating them, alongside our global views, to clients as well as to investors and our client-facing professionals throughout Canada. Prior to his current role, Kurt was a Global Investment Strategist responsible for presenting BlackRock’s multi-asset investment views to clients throughout North America, primarily in the U.S.

Kurt joined BlackRock in 2013 with over 15 years of experience in investment research and strategy. Prior to joining BlackRock, he was the Head of Thematic Research at UBS Wealth Management in New York and Zurich. He also held various analyst positions at Reuters and the G7 Group.

Kurt appears regularly in Canadian financial news media, including BNN, Bloomberg, the Financial Post and the Globe and Mail.

Kurt earned a BS degree in business and economics from the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh and his MS degree in international relations with a concentration in international economics from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC. Kurt also spent a year at McGill University in the finance department and focused on Canadian studies during his undergraduate and graduate degree programs.


Xin He


Xin He has served as Chief Financial Officer of Wanda America Investment Holding Co. since May 2012, and majorly managed two projects – a 99-story landmark building development in downtown Chicago under Wanda Commercial Properties Group (HKG: 3699) since February 2015, and AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc.(NYSE: AMC) from August 2012 to February 2015, a publicly traded company principally involved in the theatrical exhibition business owning and operating 660 theatres primarily located in the United States. He also served as a board advisor to Professional Diversify Network (Nasdaq: IPDN) in Chicago, independent director of the board at Energy Focus Inc. (Nasdaq: EFOI) in Cleveland from July 2014 to April 2015. From December 2010 to May 2012, he served as Financial Controller of Xinyuan Real Estate Co.(NYSE: XIN), a publicly traded developer of large scale, high quality residential real estate projects. Previously, Mr. He served as an auditor at Ernst & Young, LLP in New York, and held various roles at Chinatex Corporation. Mr. He obtained a Master of Science degree in Taxation from Central University of Finance and Economics in Beijing, and a Master of Science degree in Accounting from Seton Hall University in New Jersey. He is a Certified Public Accountant, both in China and in the US.



Fintech Roundtable


Moderator: Changeling Chen


Changling Chen is a Tenured Associate Professor of Financial Accounting, Approved Doctoral Dissertation Supervisor, and the SAF Research Fellow at School of Accounting and Finance at the University of Waterloo. Her primary research interests include earnings management, the market pricing of accounting information, market efficiency, fundamental analysis, executive compensation, as well as economic consequence and valuation effects of accounting standards. She has published articles that examine various aspects of financial reporting and capital market issues in journals including Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Corporate Finance, Advances in Accounting, and Journal of Information System. She is currently an Associate Editor of The Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting & Economics, and on the Editorial Board of Contemporary Accounting Research. She has also presented at academic conferences and university seminars. She received her Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, her M.A. from the Guanghua Management School of Peking University, and her B.A. from the Central University of Finance and Economics.


Panellist: Frank Maeba


Frank is a Managing Partner at Breton Hill Capital which is a leading quantitative asset manager based in Toronto. He is a member of the Management Committee and leads the Portfolio Management team. He has over 20 years of macro trading experience and is responsible for executing portfolio strategies, managing risks through optimal structuring of positions and identifying investment opportunities. Previously, Frank worked at Diversified Global Asset Management (subsequently acquired by The Carlyle Group) where he was head trader for a multi-strategy fund, trading cash instruments and derivatives across equities, rates, FX, commodities and credit. Prior to DGAM, Frank was a Director with RBC Capital Markets where he traded FX and commodity option portfolios, and managed the London derivatives desk. He earned a B.A. (Hons) degree from the University of Western Ontario. Frank is a CFA Charterholder.


Panellist: Alan Huang


Alan Huang is an associate professor of finance and Co-Director of Computing and Financial Management Program at the University of Waterloo. His research covers aspects of empirical asset pricing and textual analysis related to information transmission and pricing in the financial markets. Alan’s work has been sponsored by a number of federal grants and has appeared in leading finance and accounting journals. Prior to his academic career, Alan was an investment banking associate and a proprietary trader for GF Securities. Alan consults for private equities and is currently a board observer of a Silicon Valley unicorn. Alan holds a PhD from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a Master’s degree from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.



Real Estate Investment Roundtable


Moderator: Feixue Zhao


Feixue Zhao received her bachelor degree in public finance from CUFE in 1993. After working in China for a few years, Feixue immigrated to Canada in 1999 and started her career as a financial advisor focusing on real estate investment. Feixue is now working at Remax.


Panellist: Jerry Feng


Dr. Jerry Feng is the President and CEO of various companies working directly in the real estate sector in the Canadian market. These companies include: CIM Developments Inc., CIM Invests Development Inc. and CIM Global Development LP. He is currently leading his team in three significant real estate projects: Bayview Creek, Mill Creek and Mackenzie Creek with a total of $300 million(CAD) investment. The total lot area of these development project is approximately 26 acres with a total of 500 townhouse units, 600 apartment dwelling units and approximately 130,000 square feet of commercial floor space.

Jerry has been actively involved in the construction and real estate development industry on a global scale for 25 years. He was previously the President of Bluesea Homes Ltd and Bluesea Canada International Investment Ltd. He has successfully led residential development in districts C12 and C14 in North York. He has also been involved in two student housing development projects near University of Toronto in downtown.

Jerry earned a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Harbin Engineering University in China.


Panellist: Joshua Hoo


Joshua Hoo is a director for private capital markets practice at East Asia Group. He is responsible for the firm’s business development and capital raising activities within the East Asia Group, as well as managing some of Greybrook’s local investor relationships. His years of experience in real estate development and finance enable him to provide investors with a thorough understanding of Greybrook’s investment strategy and vehicles, and the overall real estate investment market.

Before joining Greybrook, Joshua worked in commercial real estate and as a director with a property development firm in New Zealand. During his time at the firm, he performed a key role in deal origination, development financing, and participated in the ongoing management of the company’s residential and commercial development projects.

Joshua holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical science and an MBA from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Joshua is a registered dealing representative of Greybrook Securities Inc., an exempt market dealer (registered in Ontario and other provinces), related to Greybrook Realty Partners.


Panellist: Vicky Huang


Vicky Huang is the cofounder and CEO of Bay Street Real Estate Investment, overseeing the day-to-day operations of her company, building both new and existing business, and implementing overall strategy.

Vicky has developed a reputation for leading from the front line, working with teams and clients in developing and executing business plans which resulted in the advancement of the key strategic initiatives of each firm.

Vicky received her master degree in mechanical finance from the University of Toronto and was also certified by the Real Estate Management Program at Harvard University.

Kurt Reiman

Xin He (贺鑫)


贺鑫于2012年5月至今担任万达集团/万达美国投资公司首席财务官,协助完成万达31亿美元对全球最大电影院线AMC的收购,负责在芝加哥城区10亿美元“文华中心”99层地标性建筑的开发。他于2012/8-2015/2担任万达收购的美国AMC院线(NYSE: AMC)财务总监,负责收购和上市运作;于2010年12月至2012年5月担任鑫苑置业有限公司(NYSE: XIN)财务中心总经理。鑫苑是中国房地产百强企业,运营效率十强,在中美开发了若干高端房地产项目。贺先生还曾担任过Professional Diversify Network的董事会顾问,Energy Focus Inc. (Nasdaq: EFOI)的独立董事,中运控股集团(OTCBB: CTHG) 的首席财务官,纽约安永会计师事务所审计师,并在中国中纺集团、中航建筑设计院负责海外企业管理、战略并购及财务管理。贺鑫先生是美国财务执行官协会会员,美中总商会常务理事、芝加哥商会副会长。他取得了中央财经大学税务本科、硕士学位,以及美国Seton Hall University会计硕士学位;他还同时拥有美国注册会计师(AICPA)和中国注册会计师(CICPA)。

主持人:Changling Chen(陈长龄)


陈长龄博士,现任滑铁卢大学会计金融学院副教授(终身教授), 博士生导师。本科毕业于中央财经大学经济管理系;毕业后先在中国银行总行营业部工作,然后到北京大学光华管理学院读会计学硕士,之后到美国威斯康星麦迪逊大学商学院完成会计学博士;从2004年至今在滑铁卢大学工作,期间先后教过本科中级财务会计,研究生班财务报表分析,会计理论,和博士班财务会计专题研讨课程,并在多种国际会计学术期刊上发表学术论文。陈博士热衷于和中国的高校进行学术交流,曾经到中央财经大学,中南财经政法大学,和西南财经大学做学术讲座,并且和国内和国外的会计学术界同行广泛合作关于财务报表盈余管理和会计信息股票定价方面的研究。



嘉宾:Frank Maeba


Frank Maeba现任 Breton Hill Capital Ltd管理合伙人,首席投资策略分析师,首席交易员。Breton Hill Capital是多伦多知名量化资产管理公司。Frank是该公司管理委员委员,基金组合管理组成员。Frank有着20多年宏观交易经验,负责基金策略执行,风险控制。在这之前,Frank曾于Diversified Global Asset Management担任首席交易员,负责衍生品交易。加入Diversified Global Asset Management 之前, 他是RBC Capital Markets的Director,负责外汇汇和商品期权交易。Frank毕业于西安大略大学,获得荣誉毕业生。他同时注册金融分析师(CFA)持证人。


嘉宾:Alan Huang


Alan Huang (黄国明)是滑铁卢大学的金融学副教授,担任计算机和金融管理专业的联席主任。Alan的研究集中于和金融市场信息传播和定价相关的实证资产定价和文本分析。Alan的研究得到多个联邦资助,也发表于一流的金融和会计刊物。Alan此前于广发证券从事投行和自营。Alan当前为私募提供咨询,是硅谷一家独角兽公司的董事会观察员。Alan持有科罗拉多大学的博士学位和上海财经大学的硕士学位。

Feixue Zhao 于1993年毕业于中央财经大学财政系,毕业后获得首批中国注册会计师认证资格,先分配在华北电力设计院工作,后又任职与美国惠斯特勒电力设备公司。1999年移民加拿大后, Feixue开始从事投资理财顾问。Feixue现任职于加拿大最大的地产公司Remax,诚恳的工作态度,扎实的专业基础,丰富的销售经验,敏锐的市场触觉为Feixue积累了最坚实的客户口碑,她曾多次获得公司销售业绩大奖。



嘉宾:Jerry Feng(冯九斌 )


冯九斌博士毕业于哈尔滨工业大学,工学博士。在全球范围内有超过25年的房地产开发及工程管理经验。他曾任BLUE SEA HOMES LTD. 和 BLUE SEA CANADA INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENT LTD.的主席及总裁。冯九斌博士曾成功主持了多个多伦多高端住宅项目和多伦多大学中心校区两处学生公寓的开发建设工作。冯九斌博士现任信安国际、信安资本及信安发展等多家公司和机构的董事局主席及首席执行官。目前由他主持开发的项目还有:信安•橡树湾、信安•碧水湾、 信安•浅水湾等,总建筑量为500套联排别墅、600套住宅公寓及130,000平方英尺的商业用房,总项目投资额达到3亿加元。

Joshua Hoo負責East Asia Group亞洲市場的市場拓展及融資工作,同時也負責管理高博部分投資人關係。他多年的房地產及金融業經驗使其能夠向投資人全面清晰的介紹高博投資策略和工具,同時使投資人對整個房地產投資市場有一個透徹的了解。

在加入高博之前,Joshua曾擔任一家新西蘭商業開發商公司的總經理。任職期間,Joshua負責項目發起、開發融資以及住宅及商業開發項目的日常運營管理。

Joshua畢業於新西蘭的University of Auckland,擁有生化科學學士學位及工商管理碩士學位。

Vicky Huang为加拿大金融街地产投资集团的负责人, 主要负责公司投资地产项目, 翻建项目,贷款投资, MIC, REIT等, 过去几年ROI平均达到18%。Vicky同时运作易租屋O2O平台, 管理地产贷款基金Paramount Global MIC, 并负责搭建一个fintech公司:房屋抵押贷款的lending market place。Vicky此前曾在加拿大皇家银行(RBC), 道明银行(TD)和IBM工作, 担任全球资本市场高级风险分析师。Vicky毕业于多伦多大学金融工程硕士,并获得了美国哈佛大学房地产投资和管理项目证书。
