Event Details

Welcome to the 36th annual Nova Scotia Leadership Prayer Breakfast; a safe place to to be inspired, to pray for our our leaders and to consider the love and relevance of Jesus.

Our speaker this year is Dr. Robert Strang, Chief Public Health Officer for Nova Scotia

Dr. Robert Strang is Chief Medical Officer of Health in Nova Scotia appointed in August 2007.  Dr. Strang was born in Zimbabwe and moved to Canada in 1965.
All his education - bachelor degrees in physical education and science, medical degree, family practice residency and community medicine residency were completed at the University of British Columbia.
He was an Associate Medical Officer of Health in South Fraser Health, BC, from 1997-1999 and in 1999, he moved to Halifax to become Medical Officer of Health for Capital District Health Authority. He was Acting Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health prior to his CMOH appointment.
As CMOH, he has provided leadership around the renewal of the public health system in Nova Scotia as well as raising awareness around the importance of creating policies and environments that support better health for Nova Scotian families and communities.
Dr. Strang’s passion for public health can also be illustrated by his faith and the leadership roles he has played in many organizations. He has been president of Smoke Free Nova Scotia and in 2006 received a national award for the vital role he played in Nova Scotia’s work on tobacco reduction.  He has been a board member on the Heart and Stroke Foundation and is a member of the Public Health Association of Nova Scotia.  He currently is Provincial/Territorial co-chair of Public Health Network Council.

In 2003 Rob attended an Alpha course, and as a result, he committed his life to being a follower of Jesus. Since then he has been on a journey of learning how God's love and grace can guide him as a husband, father, community member and public health doctor. He has been evaluating how faith can and does make a positive impact in healthcare.
Dr. Strang has an adjunct appointment with Dalhousie University, Department of Community Health and Epidemiology.
Rob has a passion for rugby and has played and referreed rugby as well as been a physician for rugby tournaments and tours.
Rob lives in Fall River with his wife Stephanie and three active children and they attend Fall River Chapel.

The room will be full of leaders from just about every sector of society including government, education, health, business, church, youth and financial.
