Description

Volunteering at R&S

We are looking for dedicated volunteers to help with:

Merch Crew: Selling band and R&S merch
Welcome / Gate Crew: Checking people into R&S
Transportation: Transporting people and supplies before and during the festival
Signage Crew: Creating signage to help guide folks around the festival
Snack Shacker / Pizza Guru: Prepping food before and during the festival
Other Jobs: Volunteer Cabin Crew, Hospitality Crew, Tech and much more!

You do need to purchase a membership to volunteer at R&S. After you complete this membership signup, you will receive a link to register as a volunteer at Timecounts.org in your followup email from Eventbrite. Volunteer Coordinator Roxanne Taillefer (rocksand@riverandsky.ca ) will also email to say Hi! and give you more info on getting started. Contact Roxanne if you have any trouble registering with Timecounts.org. In buying a membership you will also be agreeing to a liability waiver. We will take good care of you and feed you whenever you work. Please alert us to any unsafe situations, of any sort, that may arise while you are helping out.

As Volunteers you will be able to campout in the Volunteer Group Campsite - Strawberry Field, where you will be able to enjoy the festival with fellow volunteers. You do have the option to camp with friends/family elsewhere.

What to expect in 2017

  • July 20-23 is our new festival weekend. We decided to shift to one weekend later for a few reasons - ideally, this will also mean fewer mosquitos!

  • Volunteer arrival and orientation day with end-of-day beach party with bands - just for volunteers - Wednesday, July 19th. Another party on Sunday night - July 23rd because we really need more people staying after the festival to help us take stuff down and clean stuff up!

  • We will be focusing on honing our volunteer system even further in 2017. We will encourage you to help us rewrite and update our volunteer job descriptions to reflect your practical experiences at the festival. Please email us feedback. We will also get a survey out to you through Timecounts.org.

  • Volunteers will need to work 3 three-hour shifts during the festival or 18 hours pre-festival in exchange for their festival passes.

  • Bringing in large metal waste bins - one for garbage and one for recycling. There will be an emphasis on improving the efficiency of waste collection and sorting. All to be done by Sunday night.

We have received many many compliments on a well-run festival last year. Many thanks to our 2016 volunteers.

We will continue having an orientation day in 2017. This gets you settled into your campsite and gives you some training and time to settle in. Volunteers can arrive as early as Monday, July 17th or earlier still, if you are part of the Venue Crew.

Working at R&S

We have applied for job funding through Canada Summer Jobs - we hope to be able to hire 2 students enrolled in PR/Communications or event production-related studies and 2 more students who are enrolled in Adventure Leadership related studies, who are returning to studies next year. Fingers-crossed. NOTE: we got the funding!

Security

We may also be looking for Security Staff to work the festival, so if you (or a friend) are a licensed Security Guard and are interested in working with R&S, please inquire with peter@riverandsky.ca.

Annual General Meeting

Our 2017 Annual General Meeting (AGM) still needs to take place. If you are wanting to join our Board of Directors please email vicechair@riverandsky.ca. Help shape our organisation's "Values and Goals" - we are looking for your input. Changes will be voted in at our AGM. The Values and Goals will also be included in a zine explaining the vibe of R&S. The zine will be distributed at the festival. There will be a zine workshop just prior to our AGM. More details to be announced.
