BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF PEEL - AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
Project Description: The agency will provide a 15 minute Orientation at their office and then volunteers will travel 2 minutes down to the Clark Boulevard Public School to run an activity for the 16 youth in our After-School Program. There will be snack time, activities and then time for discussion. There will be Big Brothers Big Sisters staff present to coordinate the project and the volunteers will assist with facilitating the activities with the children. Project Description: At the home of 4 individuals who have an intellectual disability, volunteers will help with spring yard work and deck staining. Volunteers will have interaction with clients. Lunch: Please bring bagged lunch – snacks will be provided PLEASE NOTE: At the home on Shadetree there is an individual who has Prader-Willi. In layman terms, Prader-Willi is a disorder that leaves a person constantly hungry; never feeling full. A person with Prader-Willi can consume enough food that their stomach will rupture which can be lethal. Due to food issues at the home all food is locked and out of sight. (coffee and water are ok). We kindly ask that food not be consumed in front of the individuals or in their eyesight so as to reduce food anxieties. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get back to me.

NEWCOMER CENTRE OF PEEL - FAMILY INTERACTION AND SELF-CARE
Project Description: The event will take place in Richard Memorial Park in Mississauga and will facilitate “play-based learning” activities as well as “enhancing interaction” activities amongst newcomer families, between parents and their school-aged children. The workshops will require the volunteers to assist parents and children with the art therapy portion of it. Volunteers will need to explain to the newcomer parents the instructions and help them complete the activities. It would be nice to have volunteers who are comfortable around children (3-10 years). Some of the volunteers will also assist with serving refreshments and lunch, along with some NCP staff members. Project Description: Depending on skills of volunteers Peace Ranch provides a variety of jobs like Garden Cleanup, Forest Trail work, Barn clean up, Picnic Shelter set up, bench making, green house clean. Volunteers with building skills are welcome to bring their own tools and we can supply the materials. Jobs like these require prior planning with volunteer coordinator either by phone, email or site visit prior to day. Garden clean up – weeding, preparing soil for planting, planting. Project Description: Volunteers will be a part of a community car wash and will be asked to get community members to participate in the car wash. They will engage with community members and wash cars as needed. We will also partner with the neighbourhood school (Sir Winston Churchill) and include the 8th grade class in the activity for the day.
