Event description

Description

Do you ever wonder

...what makes you who you are?
...how you can improve your memory?
...why we need sleep?
...how your brain is different from a computer?
...how your brain creates emotions?
...how eyes see and ears hear?

...why pain exists?
...how male and female brains differ?
...how scientists can see and hear changes in the brain?

Then consider competing in the Vancouver Brain Bee. The Vancouver Brain Bee motivates students to learn about the brain, captures their imaginations, and inspires them to pursue neuroscience careers in order to help treat and find cures for neurological and psychological disorders. The Vancouver Brain Bee is one of about 150 Local Brain Bee coordinators in 30 countries worldwide that conduct competitions annually. The winner of each Local Bee is invited to attend the National Brain Bee competition in his or her own country, and the winner of each National Bee is invited to compete in the International Brain Bee Championship.

Brain Bees test one's knowledge of the human brain including such topics as intelligence, emotions, memory, sleep, vision, hearing, sensations, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, schizophrenia, epilepsy, depression, addictions and brain research. The local competitions are in multiple choice, short answer, fill in the blank, and diagram format questions. Material comes from a book (Neuroscience: Science of the Brain) that is freely downloadable from the internet.
