Event description

Description

From November 18th – 25th, 2017, the YMCA of Central East Ontario - Balsillie Family Branch, along with YMCAs across Canada, will be focused on creating peace during our annual Peace Week Celebrations. This year’s theme is “Build community. Act for peace.” Our goal is to do this through the ongoing work of building and rebuilding conditions of fairness, inclusion, empathy, security and respect for diversity.

A special highlight of Peace Week is the awarding of the YMCA Peace Medal to an individual or group who, without any special resources, demonstrates a commitment to peace through special contributions made within their community or overseas.

Please join us in presenting this year’s medal to Charmaine Magumbe. Charmaine is an advocate for racial justice who has been an organizing and uniting force behind the Peterborough Black Lives Matter rally and the recent Solidarity Weekend counter protest. As the Chairperson for the Community Race Relations Committee, she has been chosen as one of the Top 20 Influential People in Peterborough by Peterborough This Week for her leadership and passion.

This event is free and everyone is welcome.
