Join us for this year's CSHP-BC Branch Clinical Symposium! It will be an exciting night with a delicious buffet dinner and dessert, 3 educational topics and engaging speakers, and an opportunity to network.

5:00-6:05pm: Registration / Buffet Dinner 

6:05-6:15pm: Welcome and Introduction 

6:15-7:00pm: What to expect when you’re not expecting a pregnant patient

Dr. Vanessa Paquette. BSc (Pharm), ACPR, PharmD, Clinical Pharmacy Specialist – Maternal Fetal Medicine, Children’s and Women’s Health Centre of BC, Lower Mainland Pharmacy Services

This presentation will discuss clinical pearls for the pharmacist caring for a pregnant patient in a non-obstetric area.

7:00-7:30pm: Clostridium difficile Management: What’s In and What’s Out?

Dr. Colin Lee. BSc (Pharm), ACPR, PharmD, MSc, Clinical Pharmacy Specialist– Antimicrobial Stewardship, Fraser Health

The purpose of this presentation is to highlight and discuss the recent changes to the Clostridium difficile treatment practice guidelines. The focus will be on disease severity classification and treatment options.

7:30-7:40pm: Announcements

7:40-8:25pm:  Management of Opioid Use Disorder in Hospital Settings

Dr. Nadia Fairbairn. MD, FRCPC, Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, UBC, Research Scientist, BC Centre on Substance Use, BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS. St. Paul’s Hospital Addiction Medicine Consult Team Lead, Canada Addiction Medicine Research Fellowship Director

The practical management of opioid use disorder will be discussed with a review of goals of therapy, treatment algorithms, therapeutic alternatives, therapy selection, dosing considerations, switching between agents, evidence and clinical pearls.

 Learning Objectives for 2018 CSHP-BC Clinical Symposium:

  1. To expose attendees to clinical topics/controversies in pharmacy practice
  2. To improve knowledge of various areas of pharmacy practice
  3. To keep up-to-date in the areas of pregnancy, infectious diseases, substance use disorders 

This event will be reviewed for accreditation by the CSHP-BC Branch, a CCCEP-approved accredited provider, for 2 CEUs.

 


 Registration: Limited seating. Registration and payment by credit card should be completed online. Cash and cheques will NOT be accepted for this event.

Refunds: Registration fees will not be refunded for cancellations received after Sept 19, 2018. Refund or cancellation requests can be made through Eventbrite or by emailing programs@cshp-bc.com.
