Fourth Annual OGRA Emerging Municipal Leaders Forum

Municipal governments have the most significant impact on the day-to-day lives of citizens. They provide the essential services that are key to maintaining a high quality of life. Surprisingly, the importance of municipalities continues to be overlooked. This is very much the case with students considering their future career options.

The Emerging Municipal Leaders Forum hopes to change that.

As part of the 2018 OGRA Conference, students, recent grads, and interns will have the opportunity to speak directly with municipal leaders about the important work they do every day. The Emerging Municipal Leaders Forum will feature a panel of leaders from both the elected and staff sides of municipal government. These individuals will share their thoughts and experiences with students interested in a career at the local level. Students in attendance will hear what it takes to succeed and learn how the industry is evolving. A significant amount of time will be allocated for questions.

The panel discussion will be followed by a networking session. Students will have the opportunity to talk to municipal leaders looking to speak directly to those interested in a career in municipal government. Students interested in public policy, geography, law, planning, economics, engineering, communication, social sciences, and public office are encouraged to register and come prepared with questions for discussion.

Opening Reception

Following the Emerging Municipal Leaders Forum, attendees are invited to the OGRA Conference's opening reception from 5:00-6:30 pm. The reception is a great place to meet other leaders within the municipal sector.

FAQs

Is there a cost to attend this event?

Yes, there is a $20 charge (+HST and fees) to cover the costs of staging the forum.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes, bring your printed ticket to Salon A on the Convention Floor to receive your Student Delegate badge.

Are there ID requirements to enter the event?

Yes, current students may be asked to provide a valid student ID card from an accredited university or college. Recent grads: please bring your most recent student ID card even if it has expired.

Can I attend other sessions at the OGRA Conference?

Yes, once registered for the Emerging Municipal Leaders Forum, Student Delegates can attend all sessions at the 2018 OGRA Conference (excludes OGRA Awards Luncheon and OGRA Social).

***Pre-registration ends at noon on February 23rd. However, on-site registration is available on Sunday, February 25th.***
