Project Description: The agency will provide a 15 minute Orientation at their office and then volunteers will travel 2 minutes down to the Clark Boulevard Public School to run an activity for the 16 youth in our After-School Program. There will be snack time, activities and then time for discussion. There will be Big Brothers Big Sisters staff present to coordinate the project and the volunteers will assist with facilitating the activities with the children. Time: 2:15pm to 6:00pm Location: 71 West Drive, Unit 23, Brampton ON L6T 5E2. Caledon Community Services - Evolve Store Assistants - Thursday, May 10, 2018
Project Description: The Evolve stores receive donated merchandise from the local community. It then needs to be sorted and priced before putting it out for display in the store for purchase by the community. There are two stores which are across the road from each other. The group will be split into two groups. At the Lifestyle store the type of merchandise donated is housewares, furniture, sporting goods, and books. At Evolve Clothing merchandise is clothing, shoes, purses, scarves, and jewelry for all ages that are in good condition. Time: 9:30am to 12:30pm Location: 4 Industrial Road, Bolton ON L7E 1K5 Special Skills: Physical work with light lifting and standing. The area is busy and can be a chaotic environment. Dress code: Minimum of closed toed shoes, safety shoes preferred, casual clothing that might get dirty. If working at receiving appropriate coat, gloves, hat for the weather. Lunch: Not provided Donations: Volunteers are welcome to organize a drive for items in good condition such as used clothing, shoes, boots, books, furniture, house wares, sporting equipment and other household items. Items of higher value are also appreciated and quite often make it into their regular auction sale.

Caledon Community Services - The Exchange - Wednesday, May 9, 2018
Project Description: The Exchange operates with a focus on nutritious food and community programs designed to enrich lives. The Exchange welcomes everyone living in Caledon to share ideas, participate in activities and get to know our neighbors. Volunteers will assist with sorting food, stocking the pantry, and prepping food in the kitchen. Project Description: The agency is hosting the “Cantonese Elder Abuse Prevention Information Session’ which is a Lunch & Learn potluck party (with a drama). Catholic Family Services Peel and Dufferin - Sexual Assault Awareness - Thursday, May 10, 2018
Project Description: The agency will have material ready for the volunteers so they will basically cut and paste and put it up in the building. Since it is sexual assault awareness month, the posters will be displayed in the whole building a while. Volunteers will be guided as to how to proceed and who all to approach within the premises. The agency is housed in Sir William Centre for Families and there are many offices who are rentees along with visitors to the centre and there are plenty of people around to be spoken to around this topic. Time: 1:00pm to 4:00pm Location: 60 West Drive, Unit 201, Brampton ON L6T 3T6 What to wear: Volunteers are expected to maintain an appropriate dress standard that is neat, clean and in good condition. Examples of clothing that is not acceptable are; clothing with slogans that may be offensive to others, sweats (or other exercise-wear), beach-type or cut-off shorts, and clothing that is overly revealing. Lunch: Not provided Supply Drive: Volunteers are welcome to bring in donations as below: Female Power Packs are harm reduction menstruation kits for those who identify as female who are financially struggling, homeless or at risk of being homeless. The donations go directly to the girls in the Youth program who are financially struggling. The idea is to take this financial burden off them for the week, so they can allot their finances to other things. Female Power Packs • Tampons -> 10-15 packs • Pads -> 5-10 packs • Pantie Liners -> 5-10 packs • Hygiene wipes -> 30-40 • New underwear, in boxes, with tags-> 20-30 Male Power Packs are harm reduction CARE kits for those who identify as MALE who are financially struggling, homeless or at risk of being homeless. The intent is to make taking care of one’s self hygiene less ‘of a hassle’. The donations go directly to the boys in the Youth program that are financially struggling. Project Description: Volunteers will turn garden soil in 6 large planter boxes, add fertilizer and top up with fresh soil, attach frame and chicken wire to create cages/squirrel barriers to planter boxes, weed and prune entire back garden area, install summer screening to gazebo, organize garden shed and possible plant and water some seedlings. Project Description: “Cooking with Care” will provide the participants of LIFE Mississauga the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of cooking and nutrition as well as safety in the kitchen. The event will encourage participants to take on a more active role in preparing their own meals in a safe and friendly environment made possible by staff and dedicated volunteers. Together, volunteers and LIFE Mississauga participants will be making tacos or burritos! Preparations will include cutting vegetables, cooking meat, making sauce, shredding cheese, and cleaning up afterwards. Project Description: The workshop will teach clients about a holistic way of living a healthy life. Some topics that will be covered are: a balanced diet, how exercise increases brain function, nutrition and mental health, self-care (yoga, meditation), how to get kids to eat healthy, tips and tricks for meal preparation. After the workshop, there will be breakout sessions where newcomer parents along with their children engage in activities that allow them to practice what they learned during the keynote workshop. Our Place Peel - Memorial Garden and Spring Yard Refresh - Friday, May 11, 2018
Project Description: Volunteers will build and install a memorial bench and garden to remember the young people whose lives were lost while experiencing homelessness. Our Place Peel would like to honour three youth who in recent years have lost their lives, as well as the many others we have not had the opportunity to know personally. Volunteers will help create a calm outdoor space in which the residents can relax, think and have fun and also refresh the outdoor spaces by cleaning up the space, raking the lawns and gardens, and planting flowers. Project Description: Volunteers will assist with - Power wash entire rubber surface of playground - Gardening – add soil to planter boxes and planter in back fenced in area - Plant flowers and veggies - Trim all bushes and trees - Fill sandbox with more sand - Windex all windows inside and out - Organize outside and inside storage areas - Wash dust off artificial plants - Touch up paint in all rooms and window trims Time: 9:00am to 4:00pm Location: 1320 Williamsport Drive, Mississauga ON L4X 2T6 What to wear: Ready to get dirty clothing Lunch: Provided
