2019 Canadian Symposium on Family Planning

Last year, over 40 Canadian medical students attended the Medical Students for Choice Annual Conference on Family Planning in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Now, inspired by this great turnout from Canadian students, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine MSFC chapters have joined forces to host a Canadian Symposium on Family Planning. We aim to provide Canadian medical students with up-to-date information on abortion in Canada, including hands-on training opportunities and a chance to learn from Canadian physicians who are doing their part to improve reproductive healthcare for women

In Canada, we are privileged to have a healthcare system that provides women with free reproductive healthcare and family-planning services - but we know that improvements can always be made. One way of ensuring equitable and timely access to patient-centred family planning services for all women is increasing the number of trained abortion providers. We hope to equip delegates with the skills needed to not only be excellent clinicians but also advocates for our patients and for the health of women in Canada.

The day will be composed of exciting activities such as medical and surgical abortions, medico-legal issues surrounding abortions, mental health surrounding abortion presentations; value clarification, MVA/IUD workshops and more! The conference will end with a provider panel from different backgrounds such as an obstetrician, a family physician, residents and a nurse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served!

Rest assured, the abstract submission can be done at a later date after having signed up to the event but make sure to do so before Friday, December 7th 2018.
