Lipid Targets: Use Them or Lose Them? Glen Pearson, B.Sc., B.Sc.(Pharm), Pharm.D., FCSHP, FCCS, Professor of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute
Many dyslipidemia guidelines recommend the use of lipid level targets to guide treatment. There is significant controversy about the value of using lipid targets in this way, and about the targets themselves. Glen Pearson and Peter Loewen will discuss and debate the merits and pitfalls of using lipid levels and targets in patient care.

The New-ish Antiepileptic Drugs Katelyn Katelyn Halpape, BSP ACPR PharmD BCPP, Assistant Professor, University of Saskatchewan This presentation will review the efficacy, safety, and tolerability literature of the relatively new anti epileptic drugs such as eslicarbazepine, brivaracetam, and perampanel. Place in therapy will be reviewed by tying the information to patient cases. |

A Practical Approach to Patients with Beta-lactam Allergies – a Case-based Workshop on Assessment, Management and De-labelling Methods Jolanta Piszczek, BSc Pharm, MSc (EBM), Pharm D. Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Stewardship, Island Health In this workshop, participants will hone in their skills to confidently assess patients with beta-lactam allergies using a structured interview, and gain an appreciation for de- labelling techniques including oral challenge and skin testing. A review of cross- sensitivity and selection of non-cross-reacting beta-lactams will round out this session. |

From “microdosing” to buprenorphine long-acting monthly injection, this workshop will help bring you up-to-date with new strategies in opioid agonist therapy through a case-based approach. |

- To expose attendees to clinical topics/controversies in pharmacy practice
- To improve knowledge of various areas of pharmacy practice
- To keep up-to-date in the areas of geriatric cardiology, leadership in the 21st century, generational differences in teaching & learning, the rationale behind extended antibiotic infusions, lipid targets, newer anti-epileptic medications, opioid agonist therapy, and beta-lactam allergy assessment
This continuing education event will be accredited for up to 5.25 CEUs by the CSHP-BC Branch. CSHP-BC Branch is an Accredited Provider of continuing pharmacy education by the Canadian Council on Continuing Education in Pharmacy.
