Event description

Description

The University of Toronto Institute for Healthcare Improvement (UTIHI) is pleased to announce our 9th annual conference: Health Innovation 2.0: Designing a Better Tomorrow.

This year's conference sets out to explore the concepts and principles behind Design Thinking methodology and its systemic implications within healthcare. Leaders within the healthcare design field will showcase the design process for initiatives across multiple levels - from designing medical tools to that of organizational initiatives and supports for healthcare professionals. Through these discussions, the conference will demonstrate how design processes and methodologies play a crucial role in driving healthcare quality improvement, making our healthcare system more effective, accessible, equitable, and patient-centered.

Our event is open to all students and professionals in various health disciplines and seeks to encourage future healthcare leaders to learn more about how to improve our system to benefit everyone.

Join us for a full-day conference that will feature a networking social with light refreshments, two keynote speakers, and interactive workshops that highlight innovations in technology, sustainability, and entrepreneurship, inter-spaced with a display of research projects in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QuIPS) research.

Our keynote speakers include Kate Sellen (PhD, Associate Professor, Faculty of Design OCAD U, Canada Research Chair in Health Design (Tier 2)), and Tai Huynh (MDes, MBA, Creative Director at UHN OpenLab, Editor-in-Chief of TheLocal.to, Co-Founder of Choosing Wisely Canada).

Our workshops will feature Ryan Ho (Project Analyist, eHealth Innovation) and Adam Badzynski (Product Designer, Healthcare Human Factors), introducing you to service design in healthcare, Kim Massicotte (MDes at OCAD U, Improvement Specialist at Unity Health Toronto), exploring co-design methods to develop user-centred supports for healthcare professionals, Andrew Schellenbach (MMI) presenting human centred and end-user focused design, and Oliver Tsai (Director of Information Technology, Sunnybrook Hospital) examining medication reconciliation and associated challenges in its implementation.

Stay tuned for workshop registrations!
