2020 Master Class Series [Session 1]

CURIE and Marsh are excited to introduce the 2020 Master Class Series. The first offering will be Business Resiliency. As we have done in the past, we will endeavor to provide both theory and practical applications of Business Resiliency with ample opportunity for sharing and collaborating within the group.

Traditionally, we would host a 1.5 day, in-person Master Class session, however due to COVID-19, we will be running the session online through Zoom. The content will be split into four, 2-hour segments. We will deliver one segment per week for four weeks. The Business Resiliency session will run on Tuesdays, from July 14 – August 4.

The sessions will be led by Kevin Gordon, Senior Vice President and Business Resiliency Leader for Marsh Risk Consulting Canada. Kevin has more than 10 years of dedicated Business Resiliency experience, with an expertise in the design, implementation, maintenance and testing of Business Continuity Management Programs. Kevin is an innovator in the field with a focus on developing and implementing pragmatic programs. He has developed a Lean Business Continuity approach designed to better align continuity programs with operational and strategic requirements.

Supporting the facilitation with Kevin will be Mark Aiello, Canadian Strategic Risk Advisory Leader for Marsh Risk Consulting Canada. Mark has more than 18 years of experience in developing and implementing strategic risk frameworks across North America and Europe. He has previously facilitated the CURIE ERM Master Class program.

The Business Resiliency curriculum will be:

Segment 1

(July 14) Intro, Basics, Traditional vs. Evolving Ideas There is a long-standing traditional approach to developing Business Resiliency programs, which is under a lot of scrutiny in the face of creating nimble, cost-effective programs. This segment will look at the components of the traditional approach, identify some of the challenges and introduce an alternative methodology that addresses some of the key challenges.

Segment 2

(July 21) Resuming operations post COVID-19 A discussion on the planning elements that should be considered as your university looks to resume operations.

Segment 3

(July 28) Building a Business Continuity Plan Using both a traditional and new approach, this session will address the elements of a plan and provide guidance on how to build an effective plan.

Segment 4

(August 4) Testing a Plan The final segment will focus on effective, pragmatic ways to test your plans. While it is important to have a plan, it is more critical to have a strong working knowledge of the plan and an engaged, educated stakeholder group.

IMPORTANT: Space is limited, max enrolment is 15 participants and will be on a first come first served basis. Registration is only open to CURIE subscribers. This program is being funded by CURIE, there is no cost to register.
