Welcome to the annual Alberta Student Energy Conference!
This is ASEC's 10th year hosting, so be on the lookout for tons of great networking opportunities, illuminating talks, and amazing workshops hosted by top minds within the energy industry. Great prizes will be given out to celebrate this milestone as well!
General Admission [Feb 18th-19th All Day]
The general admission ticket will allow access to the main webinars in the ASEC virtual conference, including talks on diversity, indigenous rights, technology showcases, renewable energy panels, data analytics panels, and the Researcher to CEO workshop. You will also be entered into various draws, with the chance of winning cash prizes!
Networking Fair [Feb 18th 5:00-7:30PM MST]
The ASEC virtual networking fair will feature representatives from companies all over the energy sector, from industry giants such as Cenovus, to leading green tech companies such as GreenGate Power, to innovative software developers such as WhiteWhale AI, and everyone in between!
The event will be held online with drop-in/drop-out virtual tables, for participants to gain an intimate discussion with all attending companies.
Speed Career Development [Feb 19th 3:30-5:30PM MST]
The ASEC virtual speed career development segment will allow students the chance to talk one-on-one with industry professionals on how to advance their soft skills and job-searching capabilities. This event will be split up into 3 parts happening concurrently:
Speed Networking
Get the chance to speak with an industry professional on how to network effectively and catch recruiters' eyes during networking events.
Speed Mock Interview
Get the chance to try out a mock interview, and learn common interview questions and formats with an industry professional.
Speed Resume Review
Get the chance to show an industry professional your current resume, and gain a constructive review on how to improve your resume-writing skills.
Banquet [Feb 19th 6:30-9:30PM MST]
The ASEC virtual banquet is a celebration of all our sponsors and participants, with an included dinner sponsored by UberEats. It will feature KeyNote speeches from two very remarkable people, Alice Reimer from CDL and Andrew Dahlin from Husky Energy. As well, the winners of our two case competitions will be announced during the banquet. Banquet registrants will be entered into a raffle for a cash prize!
Alice Reimer is a successful technology entrepreneur and dedicated community leader and mentor. She co-founded Calgary-based Evoco, leading the innovative SaaS firm from initial concept through to a 2012 acquisition. Evoco’s technology became the standard construction management system for global retailers including Walmart, Home Depot, and Staples. Most recently, Alice was the CEO of Chaordix, a pioneering software leader in the crowdsourcing and open innovation space, with global clients including LEGO, Procter & Gamble, KPMG, and IBM.
Alice was the recipient of PROFIT’s W100 designation as one of Canada’s Top Female Entrepreneurs and was named one of Alberta’s 50 Most Influential People for 2013. Alice was recently awarded the 2016 Rod Charko Service Award, established to recognize an individual who has gone above and beyond to enhance the technology ecosystem in Alberta.
Andrew Dahlin is the executive vice-president, safety and operations technical services at Cenovus Energy. Andrew guides the company’s commitment to safety and oversees technical functions that include asset integrity, innovation and technology, supply chain management, well delivery and regulatory and environment.
Andrew has been involved in the oil and gas industry for more than 25 years, with experience in technical operations, commercial management, and upstream and downstream roles. Prior to joining Cenovus in 2021, Andrew spent nine years at Husky Energy in various senior roles, including Executive Vice-President, Downstream & Midstream and Executive Vice-President Western Canada Upstream. Before joining Husky, Andrew had a 19-year career with Shell in Europe, the Middle East and Canada. Andrew holds a Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College, London, UK and a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil Engineering) from the University of Surrey, UK.
