About this event

Entrepreneurship and innovation thrives at UBC. From the incredible research and discoveries happening across campus to ideas and trends emerging from the university’s population of transformational thinkers, UBC is home to a rich community of early-stage ventures set to shape the future of our world.

entrepreneurship@UBC in partnership with ICICS, have leveraged this innovation and entrepreneurial drive, transforming discoveries to impact through venture acceleration. Known as the HATCH Accelerator, together we are igniting the ventures of tomorrow.

Ready-to-Raise ventures, from our later stage incubator and HATCH Accelerator will be presenting to the investment community at our upcoming 2021 Investor Showcase, presented by HATCH, entrepreneurship@UBC and ICICS. We have an incredible community of entrepreneurs and can’t wait for you to meet them!

What it is

Evolved from our annual Investor Day, the Investor Showcase spotlights high-potential, investible ventures currently supported through entrepreneurship@UBC and the HATCH Accelerator to our investor community.

From human health innovations and tech disruptions to climate solutions and research discoveries, these are the startups and solutions that will transform norms and lead the evolution of industries.

How it works

The 2021 Investor Showcase will feature a selection of ventures ready-to-raise, chosen by an external evaluation committee based on funding and readiness criteria established by HATCH, entrepreneurship@UBC and ICICS.

Approximately a dozen teams will pitch during the showcase, sharing their stories and solutions. Interested investors will be able to meet with venture teams in private 20 minute breakout rooms following the venture's pitch.

Visit our Agenda for a breakdown of the event and timing.

Interested investors can learn more about the ventures by registering for the event as an investor/funder to receive detailed information on ventures who are fundraising as well as the opportunity to book meetings with the teams directly following the event.

Who is it for

This event is designed to showcase ready-to-raise ventures to the investor community. Ventures participating in the Showcase will be fundraising for Angel and VC rounds, as well as seeking non-dilutive funding opportunities.

We welcome investors from all regions/countries with active funds, as well as those interested in learning more about entrepreneurship@UBC's accelerator stage ventures.

This event is also open to anyone interested in our venture community or from our UBC ecosystem.

Registration Process

Register on Eventbrite to attend the event. Zoom information and passwords will be shared with attendees closer to the event date via email and our Eventbrite online event page. Visit our 2021 Investor Showcase microsite for more information.

All investor/funder registrants will be sent information on the ventures who are pitching in advance of the event.

About the HATCH Accelerator

An initiative by the Institute for Computing, Information and Cognitive Systems (ICICS) and entrepreneurship@UBC, the HATCH Accelerator provides teams with the space, resources, and expertise they need to take their business to the next level, whether that’s identifying their first customer or securing their first major investor. While ICICS provides resources such as the HATCH Makerspace, entrepreneurship@UBC adds a bench of industry expertise and programming that supports innovations with strong commercial potential. Together, both organizations have created a place where entrepreneurs with the drive to shape a better world receive support to achieve their greatest potential.

About entrepreneurship@UBC

entrepreneurship@UBC propels UBC innovations out into the world through venture creation, providing UBC students, researchers, faculty, alumni and staff with the resources, networks, and funding they need to succeed. As part of the Innovation UBC network, entrepreneurship@UBC helps translate knowledge and discoveries into social, economic and environmental impact, building new ventures that drive global change.

The entrepreneurship@UBC venture building journey begins by helping UBC founders to execute on their ideas by intensely focusing on customer discovery, competitive analysis, problem validation and product-market fit. Ventures go through one of our two foundational programs, Lab2Launch or CORE. Within these programs, some ventures also have access to three vertical streams: the Climate Venture Stream, the Human Health Venture Streams and the Social Venture Stream. Ventures who have achieved product-market fit and are actively seeking market traction and are ready to scale are invited to join the HATCH Accelerator, made possible in partnership with the Institute of Computing, Information and Cognitive Systems (ICICS).

The Institute for Computing, Information and Cognitive Systems (ICICS) promotes multidisciplinary research in advanced technologies among over 150 members across 10 different faculties and schools at UBC. ICICS’ translational activities support licensing by industry, uptake by the general user, and/or incorporation into policy, standards, and educational programs. The HATCH startup accelerator in the ICICS building provides a space for entrepreneurial members, graduate students, and staff to advance their ventures guided by e@UBC Entrepreneurs in Residence.
