Thursday July 8th, 2021: Understanding Conflict & Triggers :
This workshop is designed for the youth of Toronto aged 15+ who may be involved in the justice system or who want to learn more about violence prevention. We will be defining conflict and the different styles of conflict plus its triggers, and exploring how conflict may emerge. This workshop is designed to allow youth to think about how they will accomplish or incorporate effective strategies to deal with triggers and reactions to conflict at/with: Home, School, Work, Friends and Family. For participants to be able to identify triggers and understand conflict styles; different reactions to conflict. We will be using zoom, mentimeter, and youtube to support this presentation.
Saturday July 24th, 2021: Reclaiming Our Bodies:
This workshop will facilitate topics targeted towards teens and young adults on the importance of reclaiming our bodies by breaking down the neuro-typical ideologies of mainstream media through conversations centred on Body Positivity. We will take an in-depth approach to colourism and racism and their long-lasting effects on young minds and their view of the Body Positivity Movement. This workshop will also focus on Trans and Non-Binary inclusivity and the need for greater representation of Black disabled bodies in mainstream media. An intersectional dialogue will also be had surrounding sex positivity, consent and healthy relationships, and mental health integrates into the Body Positivity Movement.
Saturday July 31st, 2021: Gender Based Violence, Intersectionality, & Self Advocacy:
An interactive discussion designed to help participants learn to identify signs of Gender Based Violence (GBV), and recognize the impacts of intersectionality on the experiences of GBV. We will be exploring ways to advocate for yourself and others in the community, providing opportunities to practice and debrief. This workshop is intended to support youth 15+ from the Oakwood/Vaughn community explore violence prevention from a different lens.
Thursday August 5th, 2021: Conflict Styles and Communication:
This workshop is designed for the youth of Toronto aged 15+ who may be involved in the justice system or who want to learn more about violence prevention. We will be focused specifically on how different people engage with conflict and communication styles. This workshop is designed to allow youth to explore and understand different styles of conflict and their applications and practice a conflict preventative model of having a conversation allowing them to apply this to their personal life and community.We will be using zoom, mentimeter, and youtube to support this presentation.
Thursday August 12th, 2021: How to de-escalate conflict and moving through Crisis:
This workshop is designed for the youth of Toronto aged 15+ who may be involved in the justice system or who want to learn more about violence prevention. We will be looking at conflict and crisis critically, and practicing how to de-escelate conflict. This workshop is designed to allow youth to understand the crisis curve and experience tools for grounding and de-escalation in the moment allowing them to apply this to their personal life and community.
Saturday August 14th, 2021: Bystander Intervention and Action Based Allyship:
This workshop is designed for the youth of Toronto aged 15+ who want to learn more about the difference between a passive and active bystander, and explore alternative ways to engage in action based allyship. We will be using scenarios to explore different ways to be an active bystander, and discussing what it means to be an ally and how we can show up for people who are being targeted.
