Welcome to Calgary Humane Society Virtual Programming!

We are very excited that you will be joining Calgary Humane Society to learn about compassion, empathy and respect for animals! We hope you and your students, or group, enjoy learning about what we do at the shelter, more about animals and how to interact with them, and about Humane Education. If any questions arise during your duration with us please contact us via email at Humane.education@calgaryhumane.ca. The program is meant for youth in kindergarten to grade 6, and is open to classes, community groups, at home learners and individuals. Please note that programs are limited to 30 students.

What to expect:

Throughout this program you will have the opportunity each month to view a new presentation, book a live question and answer session, learn about an animal guest, read our newsletter, access additional activities, worksheets and resources, and so much more. You will receive access to each new topic when requested, but a minimum of 2 weeks must take place between each access period. You will have access to all previous month courses until the end of your program period.

Topic themes:

There are four topics that you will get to explore throughout the program, those being:

More Than a Shelter: learn about Calgary Humane Society and the operational aspects of running a shelter. This also includes a shelter tour.

Animal Experts: In this month we will explore animal body language, how to interact with dogs during various situations, and positive reinforcement training methods.

Lets Get Wild!: This month we learn all about wildlife that we may see in the Calgary area, habituation, exotic animals and how we can show these animals respect to keep both them and ourselves safe.

Careers, Volunteers and More!: youth will learn about different opportunities they can have working and volunteering with animals, and what it takes to be in those roles. This will include veterinarians, peace officers, animal care attendants, foster parents, adoption counselors, behavior trainers, and administrative roles in a shelter.

Moodle:

Moodle is our online learning platform in which will host your program. The registrant will be the only person with access to this website so please consider and plan your lessons or programs around this restriction. If Moodle does not work to host your question and answer session please indicate as such and we can make arrangements to use Zoom.

Contact Information:
